A lot has happened in Perth since we brought you this article, and by a lot, we mean new restaurants, cafes and bars opening every which way you look.
From ice cream to ramen to wine bars, here are 25 new restaurants, bars and cafes you need to visit ASAP!
Ramen lovers, if you haven’t been to Ramen Lab yet you’re doing life wrong. Whether you’re looking for traditional ramen or something a bit different, you’ll find what you’re after here. My top pick goes to the Yuzu Shio ramen which tastes like summer in a soup—Yuzu is Japanese lemon—and trust me when I say you absolutely must try the bao here.
The Chippery & Co
There are a few new eateries opening on William Street in Northbridge and we had a little party when we found out one of them would be The Chippery & Co. The crew here work with local suppliers to ensure top quality and sustainability. They season their chips with black lava salt (read: fancy AF) and they even have a salt bar where you can taste and purchase your fave salt to take home.
Allora in Subiaco has been serving coffee for a while but they were known only as ‘the cafe with the green door’. Recently they started dishing out some smashing breakfasts and realised it was time to find themselves a name. Allora was born and now they also serve amazing Italian eats, and the best part? It’s BYO.
Mr Herbert’s has opened in front of Lisa Burns Pilates studio in Doubleview and it’s just what the locals have been wanting. They take their coffee seriously and serve only the very best, along with raw treats, fresh juices and pre-made snacks.
The beloved Bookcaffe in Swanbourne shut its doors earlier this year to make way for brand new cafe Edition. The space has had a makeover and it’s looking better than ever, and they are dishing out some seriously delicious breakfast and lunch. You can also grab a bunch of flowers here to really brighten up your morning coffee.
Stand’In Room has opened in Claremont and as the name suggests, it’s super tiny and super cute. Sitting pretty on Bayview Terrace, these guys are dishing out great (and reasonably priced) coffee, cold pressed juice and some super pretty flowers… do we spy a trend?
Young Love Mess Hall
Young Love Mess Hall opened a few weeks back on William Street and we’d be willing to bet it’s one of Perth’s most beautiful venues. Moody lighting, so.much.greenery and the most beautiful feature wall you ever will see, you’re never going to want to leave. Go for a drink, stay for dinner and we have no doubt this will be your new fave spot to hang out in Perth.
CBD folk we’ve got a new lunch spot for you. Viet O’Grill is all O’bout Vietnamese street food and they’re feeding the peeps of St Georges Terrace banh mi, pho, salads, rice paper rolls and more.
All you Perthlings who have moved home from your stint in London and are missing the pub scene, Mayfair Lane is the spot for you. In what used to be The Brown Fox, you can get your hands on bangers and mash, fish and chips or a juicy burger in the pub, while over in the dining room the food gets a bit fancier with dishes like twice-cooked pork belly, Cone Bay barramundi and a selection of aged steaks.
Bowl’n closed their shop at 140 and moved into a bigger and better space on King St in the CBD. They’re still pumping out some of the best smoothie bowls in Perth, but our new fave is the poke bowl—a Hawaiian bowl full of salmon, tuna, kingfish or tofu, then packed with noms like avo, cabbage, mango, coriander and pickled ginger. Yum.
Coast on Port Beach is quintessentially West Australian. The vibe is relaxed and casual so you're more than welcome to pop in for a drink straight after a swim, but if you're after something a little more glam take a seat in the restaurant and take your pick from drool-worthy steak, fresh seafood, amazing salads and so much more.
Billie H has taken over the space that used to be Asado in Claremont and it's kicking goals, left, right and centre—which isn't surprising considering owner Daniel Goodsell has previously been behind some of our fave Perth eateries including Duende, Il Lido and Bread In Common. The wine list is phenomenal and the food isn’t half bad either!
Bangkok Brothers is serving up all your usual Thai suspects from delish duck curry to perfect papaya salad. They’ve also got some amazing looking desserts like the Thai tea crepe cake (drool) and they do coffee and a few breakfast dishes too!
Neho Asian Tapas
Ok so it’s not new, but it’s got a new name. Chin Grish in Vic Park is now Neho Asian Tapas, but fear not, they are still dishing out amazing eats like beef short rib rendang and karrancini—their take on traditional arancini, which is still full of cheesy goodness but is taken to the next level with kimchi and gochujang mayo (super similar to sriracha mayo FYI).
Hamptons is finally open, hallelujah! Part of the City Beach redevelopment, we’ve been waiting for this for months and it hasn’t disappointed! Slightly more casual than its neighbour Odyssey, Hamptons is dishing out breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks with a view.
Lulu La Delizia
Lalla Rookh’s former head chef Joel Valvasori is doing his part for Subiaco with the addition of pasta bar Lulu La Delizia. If you ever had pasta at Lalla Rookh then this place will already be on your hit list.
The old D’Avenue, ShortlistOxfordSt opened on Oxford St (duh) in Leedy a couple of weeks ago and they are fitting in verrrry nicely. With crazy good coffee (of course) and one heck of a menu—smashed avo on Mr Drummond’s homemade crumpets anyone?—we think we’ll be spending a lot of time here.
Mount Hawthorn’s gelato scene just stepped it up a notch with the addition of Affogato to the Scarborough Beach Road strip. You could just go for a coffee but you’d be nuts not to get some gelato too.
The Hummus Club
I’m not even joking when I say The Urban List team are basically stalking the good people at The Hummus Club to find out when they are opening. It looks 100% ready to go now so we reckon you’ll be able to get your fix any day now. Get excited!
Drift will be opening where Preston’s previously lived on Calais Road in Scarborough and they’ll be dishing out good coffee and some ridic pizza. The takeaway section is set to open in mid-November with the restaurant scheduled to open in 2017.
Soda Sunlounge has closed its doors and in just a couple of weeks you will be able to head into Tom’s Italian for pizzas and Peronis after a swim at North Beach. Sounds like a plan to us.
The hills are alive with the sound of rustic Italian food and plenty of Italian wine thanks to La Fattoria. They’ll be opening their doors on 23 November so mark it in your calendars.
Hylin Small Bar
We’ve been eagerly awaiting the opening of Hylin’s small bar and we think it should be happening prettttty soon! If it’s half as good as the breakfasts, it’s going to be one of our new faves for sure!
Panda & Co
With the slogan “proudly inauthentic Asian” we can’t help but love Panda & Co before it’s even open. We’re expecting some pretty rad coffee thanks to Dukes Coffee, a whole lot of flare and a mod-Oz twist on some of our fave Asian goodies.
Mister Gill’s Fish And Chip Shop
We’ve got a feeling this ain’t going to be your average fish and chip shop. If you know Subiaco bar Juanita’s you’ll be very excited to hear that owner Murray Gill is opening a fish and chip shop just down the street which will be offering beautifully cooked seafood and wine, plus a few cocktails for good measure.
