Hold the freakin’ phone. Daniel San are rocking our hump days with all-you-can-eat Dim Sum Fun on Wednesdays, which means we can eat ALL the dumplings (without queuing, because that makes us hangry). And these aren’t just your ordinary dumplings in Sydney. This Manly bar is bringing together an eclectic mix of handmade dumplings from all over, making it one of our fave Asian-inspired bars in Sydney. One of the best dumplings in Sydney? We think so!
The overarching philosophy is “as long as it’s damn tasty,” so every week they’ll be offering a slightly different assortment, depending on what’s fresh (bonus: no more indecision!). If there’s one thing you can count on though, it’s that there will always be a pork dumpling, because they know how to please us, clearly. Beyond that porky goodness, one week you could be scoffing down on duck dumplings, the next week scooping up a scallop variety, or drooling as you say, “mmmm… prawn.”
If you’re lucky you’ll even get a taste of the quirkier side of Daniel San. Think dumplings with a kiss of satay or even cinnamon, and the umami-packed cashew sauce that has turned us into Daniel San addicts. You might even find soft steamy dessert buns, filled with yolky custard or sweet red beans (your mama would be so proud if you tried these). Just like the lovably eccentric décor, these tasty morsels will have you coming back again and again to discover new dumpling possibilities (that and whatever is in the next corner of the bar that’s yet to be explored).
And since Daniel San is, after all, a bar, you have all the hump day trimmings (aka cocktails) you’ll need. The Tropic Thunder will get you feeling appropriately tropical with pineapple, coconut and lime, but the Green Lantern captures the Daniel San spirit even better. Yuzu Liqueur and Midori meet their Asian match with Calpis and mint.
Given that this bar sits right opposite Manly beach, you’ll also be able to work off your epic dim sum feast afterwards. Make like a dumpling and go for a quick dip in the water, or just waddle down the beach all satisfied-like. #sydneylife
