Mermaid, pastel, ombre, balayage, spotlighting, babylights blah, blah, blah. So many hair trends, so few strands.
That’s why, you can count on us—with the help of the best hairdressers in Brisbane—to cut through the noise and bring you the hottest hair trends, while they’re still cool.
Which brings us to the latest, possibly shiniest hair trend of all: metallic pastels.
Metallic pastels is the new cool-kid colour technique to hit the catwalks, with celebs and models alike lining up for the out-of-the-box trend, and we’ve found one of the best hairdressers in Brisbane, already doing it.
If you are wondering what the heck I mean by metallic pastels, put ‘90s robo-girl visions of silver spray-painted coifs out of your mind—this modern version of metallics is refined, dreamy and oh-so subtle, and the on-trend team at Milton’s XIN TWENTY ONE have it nailed.
Because we’ve always dreamed of being a rose-goldilocks, we sat down with director and owner of XIN TWENTY ONE, Xin Guo to get the low-down on this midas-approved hair trend.
‘We absolutely love the metallic pastel trend at the moment because it instantly adds radiance to dull strands and warmth to your complexion’, says Xin.
‘Rather than applying one block colour to the whole head, the technique is much more multi-dimensional, and involves weaving in bronze-toned strands to brighten the overall look and give the hair a luxurious sheen,’ he says.
Drawing inspiration from the catwalks and celebrity hairstyles (think Katy Perry, Nicole Richie, Kylie Jenner and Cara Delevigne), Xin says that while the style works on almost any haircut, it’s probably not recommended for the darkest of dark-haired amongst us (sorry Kardashian crew).
‘It’s a very high maintenance look so we wouldn’t recommend this trend to clients who do not have time to look after their hair or visit the salon regularly,’ XIN warns.
That said, if cool-girl hair is your jam, this one hair trend you just gotta try!
If you needed more convincing to try the metallic hair trend, just mention ‘The Urban List’ when booking for the first time at XIN, and you’ll receive $50 off your cut and colour, and $20 off other hair services (i.e. styling).
Hello, shiny new ‘do!
Xin’s Top Tips for Rocking Pastel Metallics
- Maintenance is key here. Make sure your after-salon care is top-notch so that you get the most from your colour. XIN TWENTY ONE use SHU UEMURA Colour Lustre to maintain their hair colours. The colour balm adds tone to coloured hair and prolongs the intensity of hair colour, using linseed oil and musk rose oil, which doubles as a treatment.
- Teal and violet are Xin’s picks for the best pastel shade as both of these shades fade out nicely.
- Fairer skinned? Try hues like violet, teal, silver, and blue which complement cooler skin tones. Copper, apricot and coral are your jam if you’ve got a warmer skin tone.
