Iconic Brisbane pub The Wickham Hotel has had a bit of a facelift of late and been transformed into a thing of beauty. Still staying true to the LGBTQIA+ community who hold her dear, the grand old watering hole’s $3.1 million makeover makes it one of the most stylish spots in Brisbane, with a revamped beer garden, refreshed bar spaces and a new kitchen. 

Joining the ever-growing line up of foodie offerings at Woolloongabba’s South City Square precinct is Los Felix, a hole-in-the-wall taqueria dishing up Southern Cali-inspired Mexican street food fare. With plenty of colourful outdoor seating under vibrant yellow umbrellas, the casual eatery will have you feeling like you’re anywhere but Brisbane, especially once you’ve got your hands wrapped around a soft taco. 

A breezy, outdoor beer garden, the Copacabana Club is tucked away at the back of Mr Badgers in Woolloongabba—but don’t expect a single sign leading the way. Just head down the back of the deli and cafe and you’ll find yourself in what looks like a rundown locker room.

Brought to you by furniture store Coco Republic, who first dipped their toe into hospitality back in 2015 in Sydney, L’Americano Espresso Bar is a fresh new follow-up and Brisbane's own window into the Italian Riviera (without the 18-hour flight). 

Rosé on tap—need we say more? Ardo’s is Newstead’s new Spanish-influenced wine bar from the City Winery team, and yes, they’ve got a wine tap where you can pour your own wine—but we’ll get to that in a moment. First of all, let us tell you about the bar itself, which is fashioned as a neighbourhood spot for a few wines, some friendly banter with the knowledgeable staff and a bottle of something special to take home. Take a seat at one of the pink stone tables and you can peruse the wines lining the walls, taking your pick from minimal intervention, up-and-coming Australian and European drops.

It might be an hour north of Brisbane across the way from Bribie Island, but Sandstone Point is worth the drive, and if it was only just a little further south we'd class it as Brisbane's best pub—it's that good. With multiple dining and drinking spaces, an epic playground and endless world-class concerts, festvials and other events on the calendar, the waterfront venue covers all the bases, no matter what you're looking for.

Brisbane’s best butcher is going for a secondary title of Brisbane’s best sandwich bar with the opening of Eat At Billy’s, which comes to us from the team behind the legendary Meat At Billy’s. Located ight next door to the Rosalie butcher, this sandwich spot is the fruition of years of thinking, dreaming and planning from owner Billy Gibney, with surprisingly good timing on the opening considering Brisbane’s current obsession with all things between two slices of bread. 

If eggs benny, cappucinos and puppy pats sounds like your idea of the perfect Sunday morning, then you need to pay a visit to Dach Cafe in Stones Corner. This dachshund-themed cafe is as much for the four-legged friends amongst us as it is the humans, and you'll find plenty pups there of a morning willing and ready to be scratched behind the ears while you tuck into a hearty breakfast. 

So you’ve got the gym routine downpat—but what about the rest of the elements of a healthy lifestyle? The recovery time, the self-care and even the self-confidence to own your body shape? Well, you can take care of it all in one place now, because Function Well has moved into luxurious new digs in the Breakfast Creek Lifestyle Precinct, and it has everything you need for your wellness journey in one place. 

Southern fried chicken lover for whom a certain fast food giant just doesn't cut the mustard will want to get themselves to Loui Belle, the Valley's new Louisiana fried chicken spot that is all about golden, crispy fried chicken. This casual eatery does burgers as well, but really, the chicken is the star of the show, and you'd be making a mistake if you didn't sink your teeth into a tender piece of their signature offering. 

Joining the CBD’s stunning Middle Eastern restaurant, Babylon Brisbane, is Babylon Gardens, a breezy, Mediterranean-inspired bar perched right on the river. Located just in front of its sister venue, Babylon Gardens features two al fresco terraces overlooking the Story Bridge, and is the ultimate spot for a pre-dinner cocktail or after work drinks. 

If you haven’t heard of Guy Grossi, he’s only one of Melbourne’s most iconic chefs, not to mention a well-known media personality who’s appeared on multiple cooking shows. And now, with four restaurants under his belt—Grossi Florentino, Ombra and Arlechin in Melbourne and Garum in Perth—Grossi has brought his particular brand of hospitality to Brisbane, opening Settimo in the CBD. 

Brisbane’s craft beer scene is on the up and up, and the latest newcomer to the scene is Future Magic Brewing Co, which has just taken over a massive, brick-lined warehouse in East Brisbane. After crowdfunding to both get the brewery off the ground and start building a community of beer lovers pre-opening, the brewery (from beer-loving mates Sean Astill and Rhys Pike) already has a legion of fans hitting the venue regularly for knock-off drink and a casual feed. 

This may just be the cutest news you’ve heard all year: a corgi-themed cafe has just landed in Brisbane, and it has its own resident corgi. Now open in a quiet cul de sac in Milton, Corgi Garden is a yellow and white striped pup-friendly cafe with a theme based entirely around the owners’ four-legged baby, a three-year-old corgi named KitKat. 

Bringing Southern Cali vibes to Mitchelton, brothers Tze-Huei and Chewie Choo have teamed up with Chef Ash Kettle to transform a character-filled corner store into a breezy, neighbourhood spot for all day brunching, Mitch & Antler. Queues are already out the door on weekends for a table in the cottage-like cafe, which hides peachy pink walls behind a teal and brick exterior, though you can hit the takeaway window for a coffee while you wait if the caffeine withdrawals are getting to you. 

Newly landing in the iconic Stamford Plaza by the riverfront is La Boca Bar And Grill—a unique fusion of authentic Argentinian cooking and local produce. Argnentinian cuisine is all about cooking over fire, and here you’ll see the massive open flame fireplaces in the heart of the kitchen grilling and smoking tender cuts of aged meat—it’s an experience as much as a hearty dinner spot. 

You love Italian food, obviously, but did you know there’s so much more to it than pizza and pasta? In fact, every region of Italy lays claim to its own distinct cuisine, and West End’s new Pilloni is here to shine a light on one of them, dedicating itself entirely to Sardinian fare. 

Late 2022 brought the stunning Adelita Wine Bar to Brisbane’s bayside and we’re so glad it did. Beaming with gorgeous emerald tones, this is a chilled spot to sip an evening away with vinos from some of Australia’s best wine makers and snack on modern-Australian eats. Whether you want to perch up at the marble bar, sink into a lounge chair with a cocktail or nab a table for a decadent meal, there’s a place for you here. 

Straddie Brewing Co is a must-visit on your next North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) adventure. 

Prepare to whet your whistle, north side beer lovers, because a relaxed brewpub pouring easy-drinking beers just landed in a huge old WWII hanger in Wilston. Archer Brewing, who you may already know from their range of craft beers or the old Archer’s Bunker in Spring Hill, has a permanent new home, one where you can knock back a pint in view of the massive silver tanks brewing up even more of the good stuff. 

Let’s face it, most of us aren’t blessed with naturally straight, silky hair or long locks of natural beach waves. Most of us wake up each morning with to reoccurring frizz that, despite all our straightening efforts, just can’t be tamed. If you’re sitting there nodding, we’ve got news for you—after taming the locks of the Gold Coast and Sydney, The Straightening Salon has brought their non-toxic permanent and semi-permanent hair straightening treatments to Brisbane, opening in Fortitude Valley.

What began with an Italian baker handing down a recipe for an artesian Napoli-style pizza dough has progressed to the opening of munja. Known for bringing traditional Hellenic feasting into the now, Jonathan Barthelmess gave the Greek taverna a swanky update with The Apollo Restaurant in Sydney. As avid fans of Greek food in all forms, we frothed it, and we’re frothing harder still now that Barthelmess has brought tavern 2.0 to Brisbane with Greca.

Well known as one of Melbourne’s best venues for authentic sushi and sashimi, Komeyui has expanded north, bringing its delicate Japanese eats to Spring Hill. Tucked away on Wharf Street, the restaurant is deliberately minimalist and tranquil, featuring grey tile floors, light timber furnishings and a lengthy sushi bar, because here, the art is on the plate. 

After just over a year of pouring smooth coffees and slinging pastries and toasties to hungry Valley goers, Rings A Bell has finally added an all-day breakfast menu to their offering, and there’s a trio of breakfast baos on it that’s calling your name. 

A new kind of workout has arrived in Brisbane, one that will get you sweating through a full body burn. A US fitness phenomenon, Rumble Boxing first landed on our shores last year, opening four studios in WA, Victoria and NSW, with their new West End location the fourth of many to come. 

Yes, it's true. The Yiros Shop just made it easier than ever to wrap your hands around their meaty, saucy yiros wraps with a brand new drive-thru location in North Lakes. Now, you don't even have to get out of the car to get your feta fries fix—although you still better wait until you get home/back to work to eat them lest you end up with special sauce all down your front. 

One of the final foodie tenancies at Newstead’s Gasworks finally has a resident, with Nonda dropping into the leafy precinct around the old gasometer. A new spot from the crew behind Rosalie’s Uncle Don, Nonda is more like their other venue, the Sunshine Coast’s Soka, than the very casual Uncle Don, with an upscale vibe thanks to sleek, minimalist interiors and elevated menu.

The Paddington of old resides in Sassafras, a restored workers cottage replete with mimsatched furniture, a pretty little hidden courtyard, and a wide range of all-day breakfast options, lunches, snacks, soft-serve ice cream desserts and even a selection of cakes, cookies and treats from Missy Bakes (catch their vintage coffee and cake van at a market or event around Brisbane soon).

Pescetarians, this one’s for you: the crew behind South Brisbane’s famed vegan Mexican eatery, El Planta, have opened a neighbourhood wine bar one suburb over in West End, and this time there’s seafood on the menu. 

Just when you thought 2022 had delivered its last incredible foodie opening to Brisbane, along comes a massive, three-level riverside restaurant and bar that’s bound to be the talk of the town well into 2023. Babylon Brisbane is the second Babylon venue from Mantle Group Hospitality, their first having opened in Sydney back in 2019. Brisbane’s Hogg and Lamb are the architects behind both, which is probably why it's such a stunner, with terracotta bricks that separate the restaurant into separate dining areas featuring red marble tabletops, a lengthy sleek green marble bar, mahogany chairs and dusty pink banquettes

Auchenflower's Deer Duck Bistro has always been one of our favourite destinations for date night, but they've just doubled their appeal with the opening of Deer Duck Bar right next door. Taking over what used to be a convenience store, the team have totally transformed the space, bringing it inline with Deer Duck's eclectic, old world style, featuring antique furniture, vintage paintings on the wall and golden lamps giving off just enough glow for an intimate, romantic atmosphere. 

When it comes to Brisbane-based activewear labels, LSKD has to be one of our favourites—you’ll find plenty of their pieces in our own gym wardrobes. Designed and developed right here in Queensland, they're headquartered just down the highway in Loganholme, but since that's a little far to go for your average shopping trip, we were stoked to hear that they were opening a new retail store at Westfield Chermside—only their third bricks and mortar store in Australia. 

Chef Ollie Wong-Hee has clocked time in the kitchen at Mr. Wong, Sixpenny, and Ester—some of Sydney's best restaurants—but these days you'll find him at Bar Heather in Byron Bay. 

Located in North Stores on Tamborine Mountain, Picnic Real Food Bar is the creation of Brenda Fawdon, who you might recognise as the founder of the now closed Mondo Organics, an icon of Brisbane’s food scene for years. She’s since transferred her passion for local produce and food that caters to all dietary requirements to the Scenic Rim, and Picnic Real Food Bar is her love letter to all things local, sustainable and delicious—and worth the trip up the mountain alone. 

From sunrise to sunset, Poppies is bringing good food, good vibes and good fun to South Bank, dishing up brekky, lunch and dinner seven days a week. Fancy some honeycomb pancakes? They’ve got it. In the mood for a prawn brioche roll or a buttermilk burger? Poppies has it. Craving some pan-fried creamy gnocchi followed by a dulce de leche crème brulee? You guessed it—they’ve got it. 

Golly Gosh is Yeronga’s new go-to brunch spot for anyone with a sweet tooth wanting to indulge in all things sweet and decadent. Dishing up some seriously epic waffle stacks—including Biscoff and white chocolate, pavlova, sticky date and black forrest options—you can indulge in an over-the-top breakfast from the comfort of their minimalist white and navy space, with a neon sign on the wall stating 'I licked it, so it's mine!'

If you always feel a bit lost when you’re handed a wine list, the CBD’s new wine bar is just the place to get better acquainted with different varieties and find out what you like. Wineology has brought a whole new way of wine drinking to Brisbane, with the option to taste a heap of wines before you commit to a glass, thanks to state of the art Enomatic wine dispensing machines. 

After a long wait, TotalFusion is finally opening in Morningside on 1 February. If you're familiar with the TotalFusion brand, you'll know that this isn't just any gym. With state-of-the-art group training rooms (and classes you won't find anywhere else), boujee shower rooms, recovery spaces and an enthusiastic team of trainers and staff, it's easy to see why it has a cult following—and now east siders can get a piece of the action. 

Taking over the space once occupied by OTTO before its migration across the river to South Bank is BŌS, a luxurious new meat-centric restaurant brought to us by a team that includes Adrian Richardson—yes, Adrian Richardson of Good Chef, Bad Chef fame. As you'd expect from a venue helmed by Richardson, BOS is all about steak, seafood and pasta, served up in a sleek and sophisticated space.

A luxe new nightclub from the crew behind live music bars Brooklyn Standard and Suzie Wong’s, Superfly Disco is a throwback what nightclubs used to be. With vinyls, CD covers, casette tapes (remember those?) and boom boxes lining the walls and pop art on the ceiling, the bar's real drawcard is the light up dancefloor, where you can bust a move to retro tunes from the 80s, 90s and 00s. 

As much as we love the convenience of online shopping, being able to try something on before we buy will always be the preferred option—which is why we are stoked that Sir The Label has opened a Brisbane boutique. Only the second physical location for the Australian label, the first being their flagship store in Byron, the new James Street locale fits right in to the luxe shopping and dining precinct, with a gorgeous space designed by Tamsin Johnson. 

Buckle up gin lovers, a new laneway cocktail bar has landed in the CBD, and it's giving you the chance to learn how to make your very own gin. Taking over the old heritage-listed Metro Art Theatre, The Red Queen is an intimate, dimly lit spot featuring steampunk lighting, a solid copper bar and cosy velvet seating where you can sip on creative cocktails, beer and wine. You can also sample the Red Queen Gin that the venue is based on, the first gin from Artisan Gin, the distillery behind the new hidden laneway bar. 

Hervé’s is all about the sophisticated French vibes–think moody interiors with ceilings and floors clothed in rich wood and black metal accents. Located within Albion’s Craft’d Grounds precinct in their revamped timber mill, it's the perfect spot for date night, long lunches and everything in between.

Holey Moley, the cult-like chip-and-putt that’s taken the country by storm is coming to Chermside on 18 November and we've never been more excited to grab a set of clubs. This crazy 18-hole mini golf course is joining Westfield Chermside's entertainment and leisure precinct, and will feature several brand new holes developed just for the new venue, including Surfs Ups, Dart Board, Moonshot, and the Mini Sonic Loophole. A few Holey Moley favourites will also make an appearance, like Simpsons Evergreen Terrace and Flintstones Bedrock n Roll. 

After a mammoth, multi-million dollar makeover, The Jubille Hotel is looking so good you won't recognise the place. While the pub’s iconic facade remains the same, continue inside past the sleekly renovated front bar and pokies room and you’ll find yourself in a stunning, bright and airy atrium, with natural light streaming in through the glass walls and skylights above. Gone is the old wood-heavy beer garden, with the new space styled to tie in with the criss-crossing white metal framework that surrounds it—curved, maroon leather booths are tucked away under white, a-frame-like structures in a raised dining area, with high tables below scattered around the brass-lined bar.

Breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and snacks—the CBD's Goldfinch does it all, and they do it from a stunning, greenery adorned space to boot. Located underneath the Pullman Brisbane King George Square, this relaxed eatery offers you the option to grab breakfast or a snack in their streetside cafe, or settle in for a leisurely long lunch or dinner in their restaurant. If it's the restaurant you're dining in, make sure you ask for a table in the glasshouse-like section enclosed completely in glass with vines dangling overhead—you won't feel like you're in the city at all. 

What happens when Indonesian cuisine gets a Western makeover? A smorgasbord of delicious flavours is what happens. Sydney favourite Kusuka Corner has made the move up to the Sunshine State, taking up prime position in Sunnybank's Market Square, and we couldn't be happier about it. 

Taking over the heritage listed Tranberg House on Brunswick Street, right across from the Valley Metro train station, BrewDog's Fortitude Valley venue is truly jaw-dropping, with a multitude of spaces inside. There’s the street level bar, which features long high tables, pinball machines and a dog-friendly outdoor area to the rear, and an upstairs bar and function space with a mix of seating, two shuffleboard tables and a small verandah. But that’s not all—head downstairs and you’ll find another massive bar area the size of both upstairs bars combined, this one featuring a bright yellow wall of taps, comfy booths and leather lounges and a kitchen slinging scrumptious bar food day and night. 

Bringing the Venzin Group’s signature flair for hospitality to Wellington Point, Citron Bayside is all about all-day bistro-style dining with a Mediterranean feel. You definitely won’t feel like you’re in Brisbane seated out on the breezy patio under the gold and white-striped umbrellas—bright pops of yellow, polished concrete floors, marble tabletops and white furniture all help to add serious Mediterranean vibes. 

Sister venue to Gemelli Italian right next door, Bar Tano is an opulent aperitivo bar decked out in green marble polished concrete and shiny mirrors. The bar is the perfect spot for pre-dinner Aperol spritz before heading to Gemelli for an Italian feast, but if you get too comfortable to move, you can just settle in for the night with plates of salumi and a journey through the lengthy wine list.

We've got three words for you: Unlimited. Fried. Chicken. If that sounds like your idea of heaven, you'll want to check out Underwood's new Bufwin, which is dishing up 90 minutes of exactly that for $23.90pp. This futuristic-looking new eatery has been gaining fans at a lightning speed since it opened a few months ago, thanks to their uber crispy boneless chicken wings, colourful drinks and sleek, no-frills interiors.

Hidden down a laneway in the Valley is Italia Lane, a casual spot for pizzas, pastas and fruity spritzes. Coming to us from the team behind Dalgety 2.0 Public House, the eatery serves up everything from early morning breakfasts and business lunches to shared evening feeds with a side of live music.

Pouring an extensive list of organic and natural wines from renowned vineyards across the globe, you'll feel like you're living our your Euro-summer fantasies seated outside the moody venue, which features dark timber shelving lined with wine bottles, black and white tiling, and a selection of charcuterie visible through a window in the dark green facade.

Yet another stunning venue from the team behind Woolloongabba’s Sasso Italiano and Casa Chow, Purple Palm is a Palm Springs-inspired gin bar and garden where you can sip cocktails under waving palms. An open-air oasis located in the centre of the buzzing South City Square precinct, the bar features a jaw-dropping 10-foot high curved wall of gin, surrounded by a smattering of white tables and chairs where you can enjoy a G&T or a creative cocktail. 

We're not really sure what to label Winn Lane's new tennant. Created by The Zoo crew, Booze is part bottle shop, part coffee spot, part viny and merch store and part takeaway pizza joint—see why we're at a loss? This shop slash cafe (nope, still doesn't cover it) is the place to find Australian natural and organic wines, beers, artisanal spirits, pizza from Zoopreme Pizza, and lots of 'cool shit,' as the team describe it.
