Getting jiggy with your creative side has never been easier. This summer, the Gold Coast is absolutely bursting with interesting workshops just waiting for you to try out. From edibles and coffees to decorations and artworks, summer is absolutely sizzling with new things to do.  

Pick up a new hobby or brush up on an old one with all of the best workshops on the Gold Coast this summer.

BYO Sip N Paint Nights At Brush & Barrel 

Want to absolutely gee up your art making skills but couldn’t possibly put down that glass of vino? We’ve got you. Brush & Barrel’s new Sip N Paint BYO classes are running right through December. So, whether you’re a weekday or weekend drinker-meets-creative, there’s a class for everyone. You’ll be guided by your very own social artistic instructor while slapping around paint and creating dazzling artworks. Perhaps your muse are the woods, yoga scenes, sailing boats or, our personal favourite, a toucan. Channel Picasso and ponder the important questions in life with a tasty red in one hand and a paintbrush in the other. No experience necessary.

Hanging Garden Kokedama Workshop At The Craft Parlour

String gardens may just be one of the coolest indoor plant trends at the moment. Head down to The Craft Parlour’s Kokedama workshop and learn to make your very own greenery feature for a lucky pal or your own pad. All materials are supplied so all you need to do is turn up. This Gold Coast workshop gets two green thumbs up from us.

Let’s be honest, stick figures stopped expressing our truest creative flairs years ago. Thankfully, Martina Pook’s Learn To Draw Colour Pencil workshop will get you back in the game.  Designed for absolute beginners, BYO pencils, sharpeners and a keen enthusiasm for doodlin’ to join in. Fruits, live action, lifelike sketches capturing your housemate stealing food from your shelf in the fridge, you name it, you’ll be drawing it.

Beginner Barista Courses At Mr Barista

Master your favourite coffees at Mr Barista’s Beginner Barista workshops this summer. You’ll be pouring up a storm with Brett Barfoot, AKA Mr Barista himself, at Southport’s renowned ambulance station turned Percy’s Corner cafe. Learn the ins and outs of how to make the tastiest coffee in the home and office, destined for multiple high fives from your besties and co-workers.  This hands on, three-hour workshop provides everything you need, including ample coffee slurping time, of course.

DIY Christmas Wreath At The Craft Parlour

Come on fellas, Christmas time is merry AF… Feasting, presents and festivities. But nothing says the big bearded man is coming more than a DIY Christmas wreath decorating your door knocker. Elle Jay Floristry will be decking the halls with vines and florals before taking you through exactly how to make your very own Christmas wreath. Round up your bff, your fam and your neighbours, ‘cause Christmas decorations have suddenly become a whole lot more exciting.

Pizza & Pasta Masterclasses At Salt Meats Cheese

Frozen pizzas never quite fill the spot, do they? So learning to make your own authentic Italian pizza at Salt Meats Cheese’s pizza masterclass is going to be ballin.’ Literally. You’ll ball up your dough, roll it out, spread over your tomato sauce and get tasty with your toppings. This two-hour workshop is designed for fun, includes a bevvy and will make hangover Sunday's WAY better.   

Would you care for some pasta if it kneaded you? Then head to Salt Meats Cheese’s pasta masterclass. Over two hours, you’ll be taught by the pros how to prepare delish fresh dishes for your carb-loving mates. Snack on antipasti and enjoy a glass of wine with your new workshop buddies. Finally, he’ll save you big bucks by telling you what equipment is actually worth investing in and how to up your imagery game no matter the weather. Check out how you can start capturing more moments better. And yes, this probably somehow applies to selfies, too. Limited spots means you’ll need to get in quick to reserve your pozzie.

Cakes In The Nude At Icon Cookery School

No, not you. In this scrumptious workshop you’ll learn all about nude cakes at Icon Cookery School. Come on guys, baking in the buff was never going to go down completely injury free.  Learn from the best with expert chefs dishing up their biggest tips, giving you taste tests of their batter batches and showing you how to make your very own. You’ll run through exactly how to whip up a swiss meringue buttercream, finally learn how to correctly cut a cake and also given the skills to semi undress it. Cheeky. Decorate your masterpiece with fresh flowers or heavenly chocolate drizzles and chocolate shards, then try taking it home without eating the whole thing in the car.

ArTHaus Projects, a brand spankin’ new studio and event space in Mermaid Beach, is celebratin’ all of our inner artists. In true Andy Warhol style, BYO a creativity-inspiring drink of your choice and get painting with their regular Bottle Brush Sessions creative workshops. Locally situated in the semi-industrial area of Karen Avenue, at Bottle Brush Sessions you’ll enjoy a fun night with the gals or guys painting mermaids, beach scenes and surf chicas to name a few, right through December and January. Expect up to two classes per week by February and even a life drawing class on the horizon. Your ticket includes a paint panel, paint and brushes, funky glassware, nibbles and killer tunes, or bring in some of your own vinyl. Perhaps the most chilled new workshop on the Gold Coast!
