Your Fave Pizzeria Is Going Vegan & Vegetarian On Tuesdays

With a fast growing vegan and vegetarian population on the Gold Coast, it only seems fitting that more local restaurants are starting to dedicate their kitchens to the meat-free movement—even if it’s just one night a week. 

And if you didn’t love them enough already, hip Nobby Beach pizzeria Gemellini is doing just that. Swoon! 

While they already had a fab offering of vego dishes on their menu, the Gemellini team are now slicing away one dedicated evening for the next month; every Tuesday starting Tuesday 20 March. 

Yep, they’re making it even easier for the Coast’s passionate community of animal lovers to get together over soul satisfying handmade pastas and wood-fired pizzas—graciously toasting an Aperol Spritz to the growth of this mindful foodie cause.  

With the Tuesday pop-up dubbed Cucina Povera, their exclusive meat-free menu includes, for the faithful vegans, dairy-free mozzarella, parmesan and toppings, and has been thoughtfully crafted by Gemellini’s two Abruzzo region-born chefs. 

With inspo drawn from both Abruzzo’s north and south, first menu teasers include share plates like the Involtini Di Cavalo (savoy cabbage rolls stuffed with feta and nutmeg) or the Melanzane Ripiene (baked eggplant loaded with red peppers, celery, carrot and onion). Followed by wood-fired Patate pizza (topped with thin-sliced potato and black truffle paste) or the Cavolo (cauliflower puree, artichoke, pine nuts and currents). 

Co-owner James’ top pick is the hand-rolled roasted beetroot and potato gnocchi wrapped in a gorgonzola cream with spinach and walnuts. Um, yum! And in true Gemellini form, ingredients are seasonal and locally farm sourced wherever possible. Not to mention 60% of options are gluten-free! Chances are, you’ll fast be planning a return visit to work your way through their extensive menu.  

With both traditional dishes and vegan/vegetarian twists on the classics, all recipes are Nonna approved and are so damn delicious your non-vegan and vegetarian dining buddies will not miss their usual choice of protein. And, who knows, may even be convinced to finally join you on your crusade to save the planet, one adorable animal at a time.
