In case you’ve been living under a rock (or your doona) for the past month, we’ve teamed up with American Express to celebrate the fifth annual Shop Small. We hosted The Urban List’s first ever Urban Weekender presented by Shop Small, and partied the only way we know how—by eating, drinking and shopping, while supporting our local heroes.

If you’re feeling total FOMO, we get it; you missed out. But don’t worry, even though Shop Small month is coming to an end you can still support your local shop owners. Here’s our list of 6 local small businesses that are worth your hard-earned cash.

Proud Mary

Collingwood

Proud Mary is one of our faves. Known for its quality produce and killer breakfasts, there’s something for everyone, including that one friend who hates avocado. From Indian French toast (aka masala potato and tamarind stuffed bread pakora) to ricotta hotcakes with Pimm’s syrup (!!), you’ll be one happy little vegemite no matter what you order.

White Mojo Plus+

Glen Waverley

White Mojo Plus+ is a Melbourne must-do. Famous for a reason, their Glen Waverly outlet features an in-house coffee roaster, specialty toast bar and the oh-so delicious Mad Mojo waffles you’ve seen all over Instagram. We’re talking fluffy Belgian-style waffles, topped with peanut butter semifreddo, passionfruit curd, vanilla ricotta, freeze-dried fruit, black sesame gel and sprinkled with peanut butter powder. Need we say more?

Buenos Dias

Carlton North

South American brunching is totally a thing, and we’re telling you now, you need to get amongst it! Thanks to the legendary crew at Buenos Dias in Carlton North, you can now wrap your lips around home made dulche de leche, Argentinian chorizo and steak drizzled with chimichurri for breakfast! Yes, we’re serious and yes, we just told you our secret. See you there.

Light Years

Hawthorn

Light Years is one of those Insta-worthy cafes that’s good at pretty much everything. From their matcha waffles with lemon cheesecake and popping candy to their melt-in-your-mouth ox cheek black bean eggs bene, they know how to nail it all. Arrive with a grumbling stomach, eat as much as you can and then roll right on home.

STN Northcote

Northcote

A new High St favourite, STN Northcote is a welcome addition to the pumping Northcote food scene. With a trusty all-day menu, featuring wasabi milk chicken soba noodles, red velvet pancakes and slow-cooked beef cheeks, it's well worth stopping by. You can thank us later!

Sloane Ranger

Cremorne

Sloane Ranger is #brunchgoals. Dishing up all your faves (think apple bircher muesli and chilli scramble) as well as some new must-trys (aka the Philly Cheesesteak served on a brioche bun and toffee apple crumpets), you’ll be anything but bored when you seat yourself here. FYI it’s best you bring your whole crew because you’ll want to try one of everything.
