Well lovely Listers, you went ape over our avo on toast round up, positively bananas over our list of top pancakes, waffles and French toast, and kinda psycho over our pick of Melbourne's best scrambles. Yup, it seems you fine folk love a good brekkie ALMOST as much as we do. So, to help you navigate the bustling breakfast scene in our beloved city, we've put together this nifty A – Z guide to help you uncover the best breakfast in Melbourne. Happy eating!
A IS FOR ACAI BOWLS
The #cleaneating movement is alive and well in Melbs, with the acai bowl is to insta what the awkward lean is to Facebook. This purply-black little package of antioxidant-rich deliciousness is popping up in breakfast bowls all over town, atop crunchy granola, topped with creamy yoghurt (or coyo – drool), berries and banana.
Two of our hands down fave acai bowls are the On Trend acai at Little Big Sugar Salt (also winning points for being so purrrty), and the Vegan Acai Wake Up Bowl at Einstein's Relative, which blends the Brazilian berries with banana and apple juice and finishes off the deliciousness with granola and more na-na.

AND FOR AVO!
Full of good fats and oh-so-yummy, smashed avo is a popular brekkie option for team TUL. Crabapple Kitchen do a cracking version with goats cheese, chilli and mint, served on olive bread, and we love the avo on toast at Three Bags Full soooo much, we included it in our story on 50 meals you should have eaten if you live in Melbourne. If you're an avo advocate like us, you'll love our list of the best avocado on toast in Melbourne.
B IS FOR BREW-HAHA
Our slightly contentious list of Melbourne's best coffee got you frothing. Did we leave out your favourite? Can't get enough of the good stuff? Then check out the CBD's best takeaway coffee joints and our dummies guide to deciphering the coffee code. We also spent time at Allpress and Francis Coffee, and headed out West to wrangle the top Western suburbs cafes for a great cup of Joe (and a mighty fine feed).
And for those who prefer to raise a pinkie, here are some of our favourite spots for tea.
C IS FOR CAMO CAFES
We're sick for a hidden foodie or drinkie destination in Melbourne. Pop it down a laneway, with an unmarked door and a secret knock or password, and we'll come in our droves. We're odd like that. So you naturally went bonkers for our story on Melbourne's best camouflaged cafes.
D IS FOR DOUGHNUTS
Because you can (and should) have doughnuts any time of day. Why? Cos I said so.
E IS FOR EGGS
From the silky soft 63-degree poachies at Hobba, to the epic baked eggs at Axil Coffee Roasters, the Turkish poached eggs at Oasis Bakery, and the shakshuka at Ripponlea's Spout, you just can't keep a good egg down. For your drooling pleasure, here are 12 sensational scrambles to be found in Melbourne.
F IS FOR FRENCH PASTRIES & SWEET TREATS
With layer upon layer of golden, buttery, flaky pastry, the croissant is a simple and elegant breakfast option that never fails to hit the spot. Maybe you like it pumped with chocolate, or perhaps you like it scattered with almond slivers. Personally, I like it unadulterated, bar a thick covering of salty butter...
Whatever your pastry proclivity, you'll find what you're looking for in this list of six of the best croissants in Melbourne.
If you think your sweet tooth can't be sated, we reckon our pick of Melbourne's best pancakes, waffles and French toast might just have you beat… Hot tip: Bar Sur Loup also pumps out some of the best crepes in Melbourne.
G IS FOR GLUTEN-FREE
H IS FOR HEALTHY
From the quinoa pancakes at Admiral Cheng Ho, to the delicious and nutritious smoothies, protein balls and acai at The Nutrition Bar, Melbourne sure has your healthy breakfast needs covered. Not convinced? Check out our round up of Melbourne's best healthy breakfasts.
Speaking of healthy, earlier this year, the gorgeous Meg from My Wholefood Romance shared two lip-smackingly delicious healthy pancake recipes with us. Give them a go (we did and they were moresome!)
I IS FOR INTERESTING
Sometimes we want something a bit more out there than fruit toast or a bacon buttie. Enter the breakfast ramen at Hammer & Tong 412 and Middle Fish's traditional thai breakfast soup, or the mouthwatering Malaysian Massaman Breakfast Pot at Golden Child in Glen Iris, featuring slow braised, tender brisket, fried pretzels and a poached egg. Nom.
J IS FOR JUICE
Not all juices are created equal and cold-pressed is King. Find out why we are singing the praises of Karmic, Green Press and Pressed Juices in our round up of Melbourne's best cold pressed juice companies.
K IS FOR KEW
We headed East and discovered the sleepy 'burb of Kew has it going on in the cafe stakes. Cool cafes in Kew? Yeah, we've got 'em covered.
L IS FOR LIQUID BREAKFAST (LUNCH & DINNER)
We got our detox on with some of Melbourne's best juice cleanses, from our friends at Pressed Juices, Urban Remedy Cleanse and Schkinny Manniny. See how we fared…
M IS FOR MULTI-TASKING
Can't sit still while you sip your brew and nibble on your muffin? Then check out one of Melbourne's best craft cafes.
N IS FOR NEW PLAYERS
If you're looking for the best breakfast in Melbourne, you might just find it at one of the new cafes on the breakfast beat. Einstein's Relative, Combi, Lucky Penny, Urban Provedore, Patch, and Thr1ve are some of our new faves.
O IS FOR OATS
When the weather turns (as it is wont to do in Melbourne from, oh, April through September), there is something oats-so-soothing about a piping hot bowl of porridge. Say so long to Uncle Tobys and hello to chia and polenta porridge at Industry Beans, or decadent deliciousness at Lolo & Wren – they top their oats with crunchy coconut crumble, a dollop of date and banana puree and a spoonful of dulce de leche – oh my giddy aunt! Whether you like it fancy or no frills, there's a bowl that's jussst right within this list of Melbourne's best porridge.
P IS FOR PALEO
While we've long been fans of the paleo fare at Palate, we're delighted to see some newcomers to the paleo scene. Patch Paleo Cafe in Richmond is Melbourne's first dedicated paleo cafe and it's goooood (the breakfast salad of avo, soft boiled egg and pomegranate, cauliflower and almonds nestled on a kale bed is pretty darn delicious). For a super healthy brekkie on the run, CBD worker bees are gonna love Thr1ve at Emporium – home of some of the best paleo pancakes we've tried.
Q IS FOR QUICK! SAVE ME!
When your head feels like an F1 racetrack and your mouth tastes like your foot, only one of Melbourne's best hangover breakfasts will save you, or perhaps the jaffles from Oscar Cooper. And if you've been drinking like one, The Drunken Sailor's Big Brekky at The Galleon in St Kilda might just save your life. You're welcome.
R IS FOR REALLLY GOOD
Picking the best breakfast in Melbourne is like picking our favourite cat on instagram, but our trusty steed Stephen had a go. Here's his pick of Melbourne's best breakfasts. This is one top ten you don't want to miss.
S IS FOR SUPERFOODS
We've already talked about acai, but there are plenty more superfoods in the sea. We spoke to Saimaa Miller, author of the Aussie Body Diet, about the seven super healthy superfoods you should be eating, like yesterday.
T IS FOR THOUGHTFUL
Gluten, dairy, sugar, everything intolerant? You need not stay at home with your slice of dry, gluten-free toast and almond butter! Check out the top 10 allergy friendly cafes in Melbourne, as chosen by the lovely Eatable bloggers. Meat makes you gag? We've got you sorted with some cracking vego brekkies, too.
U IS FOR UNIQUE
Cat Cafe, Cat Cafe, Cat Cafe! It's a comin'.
V IS FOR VITAMINS
W IS FOR WINTER BREAKFASTS
Brrrr, it's cold out there. Time to tuck into one of Melbourne's best winter breakfasts! From smashed av at Crowded House in Williamstown, to fried polenta, bacon, eggs and mushies at the Italian Chef, winter is no time for diets.
X IS FOR XCELLENT BIRCHER
Bircher is a TUL staple (hello Dukes!) and often graces the table for our Friday meetings. When it's not provided care of Jess, we can highly recommend the following. Behold, Melbourne's best bircher! (Plus a snazzy little recipe so you too can impress your colleagues).
Y IS FOR YUM CHA
Yum cha is a rite of passage for the hung-over hordes and our round up of Melbourne's best yum cha remains one of our most popular stories ever. So who's been hitting the bottle?
