Here’s What’s Happening At This Year’s Emerging Writers Festival

​Get out your best pencil that you’ve been saving for a special occasion, your notepad that says “Sh*t I Gotta F*cking Get Done” and prepare yourself for the Emerging Writer’s Festival 2017 program.

This year’s festival features more than 200 new and emerging writers, along with parties, performances, poetry slams, panels and networking events for you to sink your well worn writing teeth into.

With so many events on offer it might be hard to pick which ones to head along to, but here are some key events that might pique your interest.

National Writers Conference

A two-day conference that will inspire writers of all genres and styles. Emerging Writers Festival ambassadors will their wisdom and experience with attendees.

When: Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 June
Where: State Library Of Victoria, Conference Centre
How Much: Weekend pass $95, $80 concession. Day pass $60, $50 concession

25 Years Of Looking For Alibrandi

To celebrate 25 years since the release of Melina Marchetta’s Looking For Alibrandi the EWF will be throwing their very own formal with music by DJ Baby Bonus.

When: Saturday 17 June, 7pm

Tipping Points

Ever thought about writing a play in 24 hours? No? Well, these guys did. One director, four actors, five writers is all it took.

When: Thursday 22 June, 7pm

Masterclass: Pitching In Publishing

Want to take the next step with your manuscript? This masterclass will help you get to that level, by pitching your story to publishers from Hachette, Penguin and more.

When: Monday 19 June, 10am
Where: The Wheeler Centre, Performance Space
How Much: $90 full, $75 concession

Lunchtime Lit: Hidden Voices In Podcasting

Spend your lunchtime doing something other than heating up a packet of brown rice to go with your chilli tuna. Attend this podcast listening party that’s followed by a discussion on diversity in podcasting.

When: Wednesday 21 June, 6pm
