Rippon Lea House is already a pretty schmancy way to spend an afternoon, but the old property is kicking things up a notch in May with the release of its Night Life exhibition, a collection of glamour fashion from the roaring 20s and (slightly less roaring) 30s.
Apparently, Melburnians didn’t always dress head-to-toe in black, Lululemon active wear or faux Brunswick St lumberjack shirts that would probably cost an average lumberjack six months’ wages. For a while there, we were a seriously glam bunch.
The exhibition will show-off real garments from the time, along with modern designers who’ve been inspired by the Gatsby era. There’ll be themed soirees, fashion high teas, design workshops and curated talks from some of the city’s top young designers. Night Life runs from now until the end of July, but there are three dates you should pop in the diary right now: 21 July (20s-style High Tea in the Rippon Lea Ballroom), 29 July (a vintage fashion market and pop-up beauty studio) and 27 May (a night-time paranormal ghost hunt through the old mansion).
Where: Rippon Lea House & Garden
When: Night Life runs until 30 July
