Looks Like We’re Finally Going To Get A Fast Train To Geelong

Citizens of Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula, gather round, because Daniel Andrews has just announced that the government will be throwing a few dollarydoos--$50 million to be exact—toward planning for a sorely needed fast train straight from South Cross into the guts of Geelong.

The current journey from Geelong has a top speed of 160km/h and takes anywhere from 58 minutes to just over an hour without any delays. Planning of this upgrade to the line will look at whether V/Line can introduce trains capable of speeds up to 300km/h, so that should shave a few minutes off your morning commute.

Investigations will apparently have a goose into whether it can connect with the oft-mentioned Melbourne Airport railway line, so there might be a chance to kill two birds with one stone—but who knows, we’ve heard it all before.

While we wait to hear if it will actually happen, here are some awesome cafes you should visit if you’re down in Geelong.
