Hair Perfumes | The Product You Didn’t Know You Needed

You won’t leave the house without your signature perfume or cologne and you might even select your shampoo based on its scent—so it seems only fitting that you add a hair perfume to your beauty arsenal.

Hair is actually an exceptional carrier for fragrance. You may have noticed this post Bikram Yoga or upon discovering the not-so-alluring scent of smoke and spiced rum after a Friday night out (ick). Your hair’s plethora of natural oils allows it to absorb scent while movement throughout the day allows the scent to diffuse subtly. But before you go spritzing your locks with your favourite perfume or body mist, keep in mind that most fragrances contain high levels of alcohol, which can leave your lengths extremely dry, brittle and frizzy, which is not what we’re going for here.

Whether you’re looking to leave an intoxicating trail of scent wherever you go, need to prolong the life of your blow-dry or are simply looking to refresh your luscious locks, the hair gods have heard our pleas and present us the with next-gen of beauty bag must-haves.

So why opt for a hair specific fragrance? Hair perfumes are quickly gaining cult status, as most are multi-tasking heroes, in the form of a spray, oil or mist. They’re designed to hydrate, nourish and protect the hair, and all while ensuring it’s beautifully scented. They’re best used as a finishing product post styling or whenever you need a quick pick-me-up (post early morning workouts and pre Thursday night cocktails are also completely acceptable occasions). Five or six spritzes 20cms away from your tresses and you’re good to go!

Here’s our cream of the crop…

Kerastase – Le Parfum En Huile

Kerastase’s premier hair fragrance has only just launched and it’s an incredibly luxurious oil that was inspired by Parisian rose gardens. This floral scented oil leaves locks ever so hydrated and oh-so soft, plus you'll be smelling your own hair all day like a weirdo (well, that's what we do).

Sachajuan – Protective Hair Perfume

A miracle hair reviver that instantly refreshes hair while moisturising, reducing static and imparting subtle shine. The fragrance is long lasting, fresh and fruity with notes of green apple, cedar wood, peach and patchouli. It also incorporates anti-odour technology to revitalise hair. Fresh locks post Pilates? Tick!

Byredo – The Hair Perfume in Gypsy Water

Iconic Stockholm based fragrance house, BYREDO explores and challenges the various ways in which people apply perfume. BYRDEO’s Hair Perfume delicately scents the hair while imparting an invisible protective veil to nourish the hair. The scent is fresh and feminine with notes of bergamot, lemon, juniper berries and evergreen pine. Available at Mecca.

Oribe – Cote d’Azur Hair Refresher

Watermelon, lychee and edelweiss flower extracts sounds absolutely delicious to us and that’s exactly what your hair will smell like upon a quick mist of Oribe’s Cote d’Azur Hair Refresher. The mist protects hair and features a patented odour neutraliser. Available at leading salons nationwide (call 1300 725 120).

Thierry Mugler – Angel Hair Mist

Thierry Mugler’s Angel Perfuming Hair Mist was created in response to avid fans requests for a beautifying hair mist in their signature scent. The mist is as light-as-air and features sweet notes of honey, dewberry, chocolate, vanilla and caramel for hair good enough to eat. But not really, because that would be weird.

Charles Worthington – All Over Gloss Spray

Charles Worthington’s entire Salon at Home range has been designed with fragrance top of mind. All Over Gloss Spray mends split ends whilst delivering crystal-like shine. This nourishing veil has a captivating, crisp scent of fresh green fruits, jasmine blossom and lilies. One word: divine.
