The 2017 Oscars season is upon us and we couldn’t be more pumped! It’s all going down on 27 February (26 Feb if you’re in the states), so you’ve only got a few more days to catch all of the flicks and cast your judgements for who should win the top gongs.
Jimmy Kimmel is hosting this year so you can expect some funnies (and a lot of dad jokes) and we’re predicting Meryl will win all of the awards as per usual.
If you’re dying to get in the spirit this year, you’ve come to the right place. Put those party pants on and learn how to throw the best Oscars party ever!
First Thing’s First, Get Your Guest List Sorted
At most parties the phrase “the more the merrier” applies, but not at Oscar parties. You want to invite people who’ll get into the spirit. You want guests who know when to be quiet and when to make hilarious remarks. Also, don’t invite too many people, you don’t want to be packed in like sardines on your three seater sofa.
Set The Scene
Roll out the red carpet, adorn every corner of your home with gold balloons and bunting, throw glitter all over your couch (optional) and buy some replica Oscar statues and a huge TV if you don’t already have one.
Dress The Best
One of the best bits about watching the Oscars is seeing what everyone’s wearing on the red carpet. While you mightn’t have the budget (or connections) that J-Law does, why not get dressed up and encourage your guests to as well? If you’re feeling a little lazy, encourage everyone to wear their best activewear and slippers and save the fashion parade for the stars.
Get Your Game Face On
Before you read on head over here and sign yourself up to the Oscar Bingo mailing list. The game is so accurate that someone always wins before half-time. It’s also a fun idea to have your friends submit their ballots the day before your party (just so no-one cheats as the actual awards show happens during the day down under) and tally them up at the end of the show, awarding the winner with a gift of your choosing.
Don’t Forget The Food
The ceremony is long so you want to have enough sustenance on hand to keep your guests going until past their bedtimes. Buy some edible glitter and sprinkle it on popcorn, make some cute Oscar statue cookies, load up on party pies and sausage rolls and maybe even order a pizza or two at half time. Don’t forget the Maltesers!
Your Drinks Should Be Sparkling Too
If there was any occasion to bust out the sparkling, it’s got to be Oscars night. Maybe give one of these cocktails a whirl too. If you’re not taking the next day off, you might want to have some sparkling water on hand too.
If you’re hosting your party in the evening when the show has already aired, remind your guests to enforce a social media blackout and tell everyone around them that they don’t want to know the outcomes of the awards. You don’t want the night ruined by some annoying person at work blurting out the Best Picture winner!
