The St Kilda Film Fest Line-Up Just Landed

We’re a sucker for a film festival, especially when it's held within screaming distance of the Luna Park rollercoaster and 7apples Gelato. Yep, St Kilda Film Festival is back with a vengeance and tickets are on sale TODAY.

As usual, Best Short Film will take home a sweet $10k, but this year there’s another prize on offer that money can’t buy (well, allegedly): thanks to a recent accreditation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, all entrants in the St Kilda Film Festival are now eligible to win an Oscar. Sweet Jesus, the stakes have never been higher…

The festival will be screening 100 of the best short films from local directors, an exclusive VIMEO showcase (hosted by Vimeo curator Jeffrey Bowers), top Asian flicks from Japan’s Short Shorts Film Festival and even a large-screen music video competition (called SoundKILDA–because marketing teams love a good pun).

Each short film has to be under 40mins long, but the festival is packaging them into feature-length chunks and showing them at the St Kilda Town Hall (prices start from $18).

Personally, we’re looking forward to opening night at The Palais Theatre, the first time the old girl has opened her doors since renovations started. It's a chance to rub shoulders with some of Australia's film greats and catch a glimpse of what's on offer throughout the festival.
