Bust out the SPF 50+, people. Melbourne’s annual Ginger Pride March is taking to the streets again this weekend. It’s the one day of the year that redheads and rangas of every shade can stand as one and declare “We actually like rash vests!”
The march will kick off from Fed Square at 11am if you want to assemble your ginger-haired crew. Register online beforehand at The Ginger Net and you’ll even get a gift bag stuffed with Buderim Ginger Beer, chocolate-coated ginger, a beach ball (because lol), rally stickers, temporary tatts and a few cheeky vouchers from event partners like Singles Melbourne (again, lol) and Messina Gelato.
Speaking of Messina, they’re celebrating the CBD coppertop invasion in their own way: by releasing a range of special edition gelato between 24 and 30 April. We’ve got our eyes on ‘Hansel – He’s So Hot Right Now’, a gingerbread gelato smashed with gingerbread cake. One spoonful and you’ll probably be cold-free for the next 18 months.
There’ll be live music at the rally, courtesy of The Vanns and Luize Scott, and even Ginger Speed Dating for all the singles in the crowd (clear your schedule). It’s all going to support the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, a charity that advocates for the safety of kids.
Where: Fed Square, CBD
When: 11am, Saturday 29 April

Looking for something else to do this weekend? A free Pierogi Party should fit the bill.
