Dine with Heart Melbourne charity dinner

In an effort to tackle Melbourne’s homelessness crisis, some of the city’s top restaurants are joining forces for an epic month of foodie fundraising. It’s called Dine With Heart, a series of bespoke food-based events, menus and crazy cocktails that raise cash for the legends at Sacred Heart Mission. And (the good news keeps on coming) it’ll be running for the whole of May.

The event has been running annually since it kicked off in St Kilda way back in 2014. Now it covers most of the city, and this year it’s pulled in some big names. We’re talking Donovans, The Craft & Co, Uncle, St Ali, Captain Baxter, Babu Ji, Tonka and Green Park Dining to name a few.

Each venue involved got to choose their own zany ideas and events, which means there’s a whole calendar of foodie goodness to tuck into. Here’s our Dine With Heart Edit to save you a bit of time:

Dine With Heart Events

Cirque d’Ali

Roll up, roll up—for one night only, South Melbourne coffee mecca St Ali will be transforming into a circus-themed Big Top, complete with jugglers, magicians, performers and nostalgia-filled carnival food. We’ve got our beady little eye on the truffled popcorn, tomato gelato from Piccolina Gelateria, and the homemade, stuffed donuts.

Where: St Ali, South Melbourne
When: 7pm, Friday 5 May

Groove With Heart

Burlesque by the bay—what could be better? St Kilda’s Captain Baxter is whipping out the feather boas this weekend with a special performance from burlesque royalty, Sina King, including complimentary cocktails, bubbly, canapés and DJs spinning the tracks from 4pm-6pm. Tickets are $32, and it’s all for a fantastic cause.

Where: Captain Baxter, St Kilda
When: 4pm, Sunday 30 April

Dinner @ Roxborough

Acland St favourite Roxborough always gets behind Dine With Heart, and this year they’re bringing back their annual fundraiser dinner: three delicious courses, plus a few cheeky canapés, with all proceeds going straight to the Sacred Heart Mission. One night only, so get in quick.

Where: Roxborough, St Kilda
When: 7pm, Monday 8 May

Gnocchi Masterclass

Some people would rather not know how gnocchi is made. Better to keep it as some mysterious miracle, like rainbows or the dark forces that keep Osher’s hair in place. Personally, we’re dead keen to learn, which is why we’ll be hitting up this Gnocchi Making Masterclass, courtesy of Danny Pasta. The ticket also gets you antipasto, a gnocchi meal and a two glasses of wine per person. Sweet.

Where: SHM Dining Hall, St Kilda
When: 6pm, Thursday 11 May

Big Hearty Red IPA

Richmond’s favourite goat-based brewery is back again this year with a special release IPA. It’s called the Big Hearted Red, and it’s on sale for one day only, with all proceeds going to the Sacred Heart Mission. The Goat boys will also be kicking off a BBQ from 2pm (and these guys really know how to BBQ). Prepare for the feels: they’re also donating all their tips on the day. Bring lots of change.

Where: Mountain Goat Brewery, Richmond
When: 12pm, Sunday 28 May

Dine With Heart Fundraiser Dinner

Save the best ‘til last, right? Dine With Heart’s official fundraiser dinner is always a great way to cap off a month of eating your little heart out. It’s held on the actual stage of the Palais Theatre, which is reason enough to lock in a table. But if you need more, here they are: Chris Watson (Cutler & Co), Jesse Gerner (Bomba), Adam D’Sylva (Tonka) and Jarrod Smith (Elyros). Those are just some of the chefs designing the night’s menu. Not a drill.

Where: Palais Theatre, St Kilda
When: 7pm, Tuesday 30 May

Dine With Heart Special Offers

Heart For The Homeless

Donovans is a beloved St Kilda institution, and it’s kicking off the first week of Dine With Heart in style, with a limited-edition strawberry and vanilla dessert. All proceeds will be going straight to the Sacred Heart Mission. Dig deep. It’s delicious.

Taco Tuesdays

As if you needed another reason to stuff your face with cheap tacos at Radio Mexico, but here goes: for every taco sold on the five Tuesdays in May, Radio Mexico will donate $1 to help Melbourne’s homeless. That’s May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 if you’ve got the diary handy.

Keeping up with your brunch list? Here are 11 dishes you should have tried this year in Melbourne.
