Melbourne’s Massive Tulip Festival Is Back On This Week

You know it's gotta be Spring when we get a month-long festival dedicated to tulips.

Yep, the Tesselaar Tulip Festival is officially back for its 65th year, turning The Dandenongs into a tulip-covered wonderland from 15 Sep to 14 Oct (Tesselaar is just near the Silvan Reservoir, FYI).

More than a million flowering plants will be on show during the festival, including 900,000 tulips (think of the poor guy who had to count those...). Live music, food trucks and Alice In Wonderland-style croquet are also on the cards.

Each weekend, the festival will focus on a new theme. As long as the theme has something to do with tulips. There's gonna be a Dutch Weekend with traditional Dutch folk dancers (fulfilling all your clog tapping fantasies), and an Irish Weekend feat. Irish pipers and of course some good ol’ Irish dancing.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic, but why you’d want to miss out on the Turkish gozleme, poffertjes (the teeny Dutch pancakes) or gourmet mac and cheese on offer, we don’t know.

Wonderland Week ends soon, so get your tickets asap to enjoy a live storytelling of your fave childhood film and a Mad Hatter’s High Tea in the High Tea Salon—bookings are a must for this one, guys.

If you need an excuse to escape the AFL grand final madness at home, then we strongly suggest an equally boozy affair at the Food, Wine and Jazz Festival happening that weekend at the Tulip Fest.
