If there was one biscuit to rule them all, the humble Oreo would be it. Because, let’s face it—the only thing better than cookies and cream is cookies WITH cream. Some of Auckland’s best cafes and restaurants realise that the Oreo love is real and have included this delightful bickie in their sweet treats. We’ve taken one for the team and rounded up the best Oreo everything in Auckland. You’re welcome.
Bedford Soda & Liquor
Ponsonby
There’s no denying we love a) Oreos and b) anything deep-fried. Combine the two and you’ve got one insaaane combo. Yup, deep-fried Oreos are a thing at Bedford Soda & Liquor. The morsels are rolled in cinnamon sugar, drizzled with chocolate sauce and served with ice cream—it’s every bit as amazing as it sounds!
Moustache Milk & Cookie Bar
K Road & Auckland University
Moustache Milk & Cookie Bar has taken the Oreo and turned it into a cookie, making it a cookie within a cookie. The chocolate delight has a melted marshmallow centre and is topped with crushed Oreos and crunchy marshmallows. We can also vouch for both their peanut butter and white chocolate macadamia creations. Eat all the cookies.
Cereal Killa
Mt Eden
Cereal Killa is the master of the not-so-humble freakshake. Slurp on shakes such as caramel, Nutella, choc mint or…cookies and cream! This thick, creamy shake stars a blend of Oreos and ice cream and is topped high with whipped cream, choc sauce and crushed Oreos. The meeega shake is a meal within itself—proceed with caution.
Fokker Bros
Wynyard Quarter
If you prefer something something harder, visit Fokker Bros on a Tuesday to order one of their hardshake specials. Our fave is their Minnie Mouse lime shake that stars Belvedere vodka, Hershey’s choccy sauce and—of course—Oreos! It’s the perfect way to wash down one of their equally epic burgers.
Mellow
Auckland City
High Street’s dessert parlour Mellow is also coming to the Oreo party with their cookies and cream cheesecake. This large (warning: it’s seriously huge) slice of cake is best enjoyed with one of their iced cookies and cream drinks. There are lots of unique desserts to work your way through here. Think taro cheesecake, matcha shaved ice and cold stone ice cream.
The Sugar Shed
Pukekohe
If there’s anyone who knows how to whip up delectable sweet treats, it’s The Sugar Shed. The menu is ever-changing with treats such as Malteasers cheesecake, skillet brownie and cookie caramel slice. The have been known to whip up both an Oreo cake and cheesecake. They also have a cookie that stars an Oreo engulfed in a chocolate biscuit—cookieception!
Our Little Kitchen Co
Online
Our Little Kitchen Co is taking over the city with their insane cakes. If freakcakes were a thing, these cakes would be the definition of the word. These bad boys star all things delish: Tolberone, Ferrero Rocher, Nutella and peanut butter. The Urban List celebrated our 1st birthday with a cookie overload cake decorated with cookie dough balls, Oreos and Cookie Time biscuits.
Little Bird
Ponsonby, Kingsland & Auckland City
If you want a cookie fix without the guilt, look no further than the friendly folk at Little Bird. They have a mini cookies and cream cheesecake that’s raw, vegan and free from dairy, gluten and refined cane sugar. The creamy cake is drizzled with dark choc and topped with a delightfully cute cookie.
