Sculpt Barre And Pilates

If you’ve ever attempted a barre class, you’ll know that they are a hell of a lot harder than they look—and after one session at Newstead’s new Sculpt Barre And Pilates, you’ll be feeling the burn in muscles you never knew you had.

Food & Drink

South Austin

Fans of Barbecue Mafia take note—the team behind the cult-worthy purveyors of low-and-slow-cooked meats have launched another venture that will get you drooling, this one dedicated to all things Tex-Mex. Taking over Upper Mount Gravatt’s Cenzo’s Cafe + Bar from Thursday to Saturday (Cenzo’s will still operate as a cafe by day, and supply the drinks—including frozen margaritas—to go with the meaty feeds by night), South Austin’s menu features those same slow-cooked meats you love at Barbecue Mafia, only now they’re wrapped up in tortillas and topped with delicious Tex-Mex sauces and spices.

Bakeries & Delis

Botanica Hawthorne

The old saying "you don't make friends with salad" can officially be put to rest, with Brisbane's best purveyors of the stuff, Botanica, opening their fourth location in Hawthorne on 25 January, meaning they've got every side of Brisbane covered in the side dish department. Not that these salads should be anything but a main—and if you've yet to sample the joys of Botanica's kale and crouton number you'll soon agree that humans and salads can be very best of friends.

Cafes

Bear Boy Espresso

Landing in Windsor’s new Colwill Place development, Bear Boy Espresso will be familiar to anyone who’s visited the Gold Coast cafe of the same name, but if you haven’t, you’re in for a real treat. The cosy new space has replicated a few of the design features from its big brother, including the pink marble counter and that adorable logo on the wall. Here though, it’s more than just the counter that’s pink, with the whole interior a shade of coral, including a curved booth for larger groups in one corner. As well as indoor seating, there’s also a sunny deck outside, perfect for breezy mornings.

Bars & Pubs

La Valle

Joining its sibling venues Cielo Rooftop Bar and La Costa Restaurant around the corner, La Velle is much more than just a wine bar. Part bottle shop, part wine club, part snack stop, it’s the perfect place to head for after-work drinks, pre-dinner drinks or even just a cheeky lunch of focaccia with a glass of rose.

Restaurants

Seoulful Chicken

There’s no doubt about it—we here in Brisbane love our Korean fried chicken. But the latest addition to the KFC scene isn’t just dishing up crispy wings and legs, they’re also dishing up one of the most carb-heavy, drool-worthy feeds we’ve ever seen. We give you, the carbonara bread bowl with whole fried chicken, a round loaf of bread filled with creamy carbonara pasta and topped with crispy chicken pieces. Holy moly.

Restaurants

Southside Restaurant

Big fan of Rick Shores, but not a fan of the lenghty drive to get the iconic Burleight spot? Well then you might want to check out Southside Restaurant, the brand new eatery from the team behind the Gold Coast venue that just landed in South Brisbane's Fish Lane. Not that you'll recognise Fish Lane when you get there—the upper end of the laneway has been transformed into a vibing, jungle-like dining precinct, with Southside's sister spot, Kiki, open for open air drinks and snacks just outside.

Bars & Pubs

The Prince Consort

Eight different bars and party spaces in one sounds like the kind of boozy choose-your-own-adventure night that will finish with you telling your Uber driver you just had ‘the BEST night EVER’ on your way home, right? Well, that’s just what you’re in at The Prince Consort, so you best start stocking up on Hydralyte and prepping for a big one now.

Cafes

Darvella Patisserie

Landing with a bang in Bulimba, Darvella Patisserie comes to us from Giorgina Venzin and the Venzin Group, who you would absolutely know from their other venues, Pawpaw Cafe and Mons Ban Sabai. Named for the town in Switzerland where Venzin’s father grew up, the hole-in-the-wall bakery has a Swiss feel—but you’re not here for the interiors, you’re here for the carb-loading.

Restaurants

OTTO Ristorante

OTTO Ristorante sits on prime Brisbane real estate. In their new location in South Bank, the view is on point all year round—overlooking the Brisbane River and city skyline—and the classy Italian fare is always generous and delicious. It’s safe to say that this restaurant is the place to head if you want to impress a date, the in-laws or for your next lunch with the girls.

Food & Drink

Rabbit & Co

Fans of The Rabbit Hole Cafe in Wynnum and Seven Hills will be stoked to hear that the team behind the two cafes has opened a third, Rabbit & Co, this one on Chatsworth Road in Coorparoo—the former home of Little Sista. Like its siblings, the new spot is quite the stunner, with plenty of timber, tiles, greenery and sage green walls, and seating both inside and out.

Bakeries & Delis

Harris Farm Markets

200 kinds of cheese. That's what you'll find in the dairy section at Clayfield's new Harris Farm Markets, the first of two Brisbane stores from the iconic NSW-based grocer, with a second store to open in West End next year. The family-owned store has finally made its way to Queensland, bringing its reputation for fresh, local and seasonal produce with it, as well as the biggest selection of cheese you've ever seen.

Cafes

Rose Room

Sister venue to Dirty Sultan, a glamorous Turkish-inspired rooftop bar known for its Turkish delight cocktails, Rose Room has taken over the space at street level below, and transformed it into an Instagrammer’s paradise. With rose gold champagne bottles lining the entryway, rose murals adorning the walls, pink curtains hanging from the windows that open to the street outside and pink, Turkish-style lamps hanging from the ceiling, the venue is a serious looker, just like its sibling upstairs.

Bars & Pubs

Dirty Sultan

Turkish-inspired and Instagram-ready, Dirty Sultan has taken over the rooftop of The Constance hotel in Fortitude Valley (yep, where Up On Constance used to be). Though the views are pretty spectacular from the massive daybeds lining the edge, you’ll probably be too busy eyeing up the venue to notice, because this baby is quite the looker, featuring pastel-pink soft chairs, velvet bench seating under a vibrant mural, green walls and haning Turkish lanterns.

Restaurants

Broken Hearts Burger Club

How dedicated are you to finding the perfect burger? You know, one with the softest, most uniformly toasted bun, a melt-in-your-mouth meat patty, gooey melted cheese and just the right amount of sauce. Well, no matter how many burgers you've eaten your way through in the quest for perfection, we bet it's not as many as the creator of Broken Hearts Burger Club, Jay Gordon.

Food & Drink

King Of The Wings

One of Brisbane's most iconic food trucks finally has a permanent restaurant of their very own, with King Of The Wings landing at Stafford Central. With both an indoor dining area and an outdoor, street art adorned laneway lit by fairy lights, it's the perfect spot for digging into a few baskets of wings on a balmy summer night.

Fashion

Catalog Music Co

Landing on Wickham Street in Fortitude Valley, Catalog Music Co. is a groovy new record store specialising in the finest pre-loved and fresh new records, and welcomes everyone from first-time record buyers to seasoned collectors. You don't even have to wait until you get home to listen to the pure sounds of good vinyl, with custom marble 1200s complete with headphones right there in-store for you to make use of.

Features

The Plant Lounge

Not only has Nundah’s most sustainable boutique nursery, The Plant Lounge, had a totally 'grammable makeover in their Station Street store, but they've also joined forces with Vessel Nundah, and are now sharing their space with the sustainability-led eco store. So know that when you step into the vibing new space, whatever you buy will be planet approved.

Restaurants

Baos Pop

Tucked behind West End’s lively main strip, Baos Pop is an uber casual spot where you can tuck into shareable Asian feeds over a few glasses of wine or a tap beer. With both indoor and outdoor seating you can nab a table either inside in the sleek all-black dining room or outside by the rickshaw on the covered terrace.

Cafes

Maude

While the inner southside of Brisbane is known for its more hipster vibe when it comes to café culture, Maude serves brunch with a side of sophistication. There is not an ironic milk-crate chair or coffee-sack pillow in sight here, instead you’ll find an Insta-worthy and beautifully fresh space full of soft pastels and floral features that will make you want to redecorate your own living room at home.

Bars & Pubs

Lost Palms

Lost Palms have brought their funky, coastal vibes to Brisbane, opening a pastel pink taphouse in Sherwood. Though you won’t find the Gold Coast brewery's beers being brewed in the new, smaller location, you will find them all on tap, meaning you won’t have to travel to Miami to get your fix of their creative sips any longer.

Bars & Pubs

Easy Times Brewing Co

Dominating Wooloongabba’s buzzing foodie precinct in a building that once housed an illegal brothel, Easy Times Brewery is the perfect chill out spot south of the river. Located across from the Gabba, the relaxed brewery and pub is just the spot to grab a pint before heading to a game, though it’s certainly worth a trip all on its own.

Restaurants

Siffredi’s

Siffredi’s is a cheeky spaghetti bar from three ex-Stokehouse team members—one of whom was Ollie Hansford, the executive chef, so you know you can expect good things. Behind the bar, a pink neon sign beckons you in from Vernon Terrace, with quirky prints on the walls and seating inside by the bar or out on the breezy deck.

Cafes

Sunny’s Margate Beach

A cheerful new addition to The Sebel on the Redcliffe peninsula, Sunny’s Margate Beach is a cafe, restaurant, rooftop bar and function venue bringing a little ray of sunshine to the beachfront hotel, with a vibrant atmosphere and delicious menu.

Bars & Pubs

Warehouse 25

Tucked away in an industrial backstreet in Milton is the new Warehouse 25, a multi-level venue that's home to a gin and vodka distillery, a casual bar and pizzeria, an underground function space and a mezzanine dance floor. For anyone stopping by for a drink and a bite to eat, the ground level is where you’ll want to find a perch, either outside in the lane under twinkling fairy lights or inside in the cavernous warehouse space. If you’re inside, you’ll be right in view of the stills where vodka and gin are distilled with calming botanicals like juniper, lavender, rose and lemon for Calm Spirits Co, the bar’s very own spirit label available at the soon-to-come bottleshop.

Health + Wellness

La La Blowdry Bar

Ever wished you could have someone blowdry your hair every week (or better yet, every day)? Well with the arrival of La La Blowdry Bar in Teneriffe you can. A beauty spot for those busy people who don't have time to wash and style their hair every morning—or just have no idea how to use a straightener—La La offers just blowdries, plus a few luxurious extras like salt scrubs, masques and root touch ups.

Cafes

Ralph & Co

Prepare to drool, we’ve discovered the most mouth-watering neighbourhood establishment along the east side. Foodies, meet Ralph & Co, Brisbane’s answer to all things delicious.

Restaurants

Botany

Taking over the prime corner location that once held Hatch & Co, this new garden-inspired restaurant and bar is surrounded by leafy garden beds and overlooking the green space in the centre of the iconic Gasworks ring. On the menu in this lush private oasis you’ll find a menu spanning weekend breakfasts, lunch and dinner, so you're sorted any time of day.

Restaurants

Joey’s

Just about unrecognisable from its former days as Bar Spritz, Kangaroo Point's clifftop cafe Joey’s has an airy, coastal vibe, with interiors inspired by European summers, complete with the striped umbrellas. Make sure you grab a table overlooking the city views—though the seating is entirely outside, it’s all well and truly covered so you can stay dry and shaded no matter the weather.

Cafes

Plant Vibes

Say good morning to the cutest new cafe in Bowen Hills. With a bright, refreshing interior dotted touches of greenery and a minimalist, Scandi aesthetic, Plant Vibes has created the perfect space for you and your friends to catch up over a coffee, breakfast or daytime dessert.

Restaurants

Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers

Any northsider who's driven over 20 minutes just to get their hands on some Gnocchi Gnocchi Brothers takeaway (guilty) will be stoked to hear their future journeys just got shorter, with the purveyors of Brisbane's best gnocchi opening in James Street in New Farm.

Restaurants

Sugar Creek Smokehouse

South siders, prepare to get the meat sweats, because a brand new Texas-style smokehouse has landed in Logan, and it's worth hitting the highway for. Opening in the upcoming new Distillery Road Market dining and shopping precinct in Eagleby, Sugar Creek Smokehouse is a shipping container eatery that's all about meat cooked low and slow, until it melts in your mouth, just like it should.

Cafes

Healthy (not to mention gorgeous) poke joint Cheeky Poke Bar has landed in Garden City's outdoor dining precinct, bringing it's fresh poke bowls, poke tacos and bone broths to the south side. If you've not hit up this place at their Newstead or Greenslopes locations before, let us tell you that Cheeky Poke Bar will knock your socks off with their incredible flavours and new take on the poke experience.

Cafes

Sunnyboy Street Deli

Sunnyboy Street Deli in Woolloongabba is the ray-of-sunshine, cute-as-a-button Brisbane cafe where you can pair a bubble tea with a fresh wrap or sandwich while you enjoy some afternoon sunshine.

Food & Drink

Boom Boom Boom

Right underneath luxe Chinese restaurant Donna Chang’s in the CBD, Boom Boom Room has taken the crown as one of our favourite underground venues in Brisbane. The dark, sumptuous venue housed in the heritage building’s original underground bank vault is now a Japanese-inspired restaurant and bar, with the bar seating swapped out for comfortable dining tables.

Restaurants

Yoko Dining

A split-level bistro inspired by the raucous energy of Tokyo's izakayas, music bars and pop-infused counter culture, Yoko Dining is an airy, light-filled venue that mixes pops of vibrant yellow tiling with polished concrete and blonde timber, juxtaposed against the heritage buildings original timber framework. Pink neons light the way up a staircase to the second-floor bar, while quirky Kaws and Miffy figurines peek out from the extensive sake wall and a row of Japanese whiskies above the retro-yet-futuristic bar.

Bakeries & Delis

Bloom Patisserie

Newly landed in Sunnybank's Market Square, Bloom Patisserie is a wonderland of sweet treats and baked goods. Taking up residence on the second level, the dreamy, pastel cafe features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the streets below, but you won't be looking outside—you'll be too busy staring wide-eyed at the desserts in front of you.

Homewares

The Borrowed Nursery

Being that we are huge fans of The Borrowed Nursery's Gold Coast store, we were pretty stoked to hear that they were opening a new location in Brisbane, and even more excited when we discovered it was going to be located in a rustic, industrial warehouse just as Instagrammable as their GC spot. Swapping the white and peach colour palette for a forest green shed, the new space has just opened in Windsor, the first tennant to hit the 'burbs boutique Colwill Place development.

Restaurants

Mac From Way Back

Opening at the end of September—stay tuned!

Food & Drink

The Maillard Project

The Maillard Project comes to us from Adam Wang, the coffee connoisseur behind Coffee Anthology, one of the city’s most popular cafes. There’s a distinctly different vibe here though, with a minimalist stone, concrete and timber interior in contrast to Coffee Anthology’s industrial style. The most impressive section of the venue though, is the roasting area, which is visible behind a wall of glass and is where you might catch The Maillard Project’s beans being roasted on the daily.

Food & Drink

Piranha Fish Caf

New Farm might be surrounded by water, but it's been lacking in somewhere to get a classic serving of fish and chips to eat by the river—until now. Landing in Methyr Village, Piranha Fish Cafe comes to us from the previous owners of the iconic Double Shot Espresso, who've ditched the brunch scene to embrace fresh seafood instead.

Food & Drink

Hustle And Grind

Hustle and Grind represents everything good happening in Fortitude Valley right now.

Bars & Pubs

Commercial Road Public Bar

Newstead has scored itself a new neighbourhood wine bar in the form of Commercial Road Public Bar. Taking up residence above a quiet side street just off Commercial Road, the new bar is inspired by the New York Fashion Week scene of the 1980s—and has the interiors and playlist to match.

Fitness

Studio 45 Fitness

Studio 45 is the only fitness studio of its kind in Brisbane, specialising in Lagree Fitness. Straight from the USA, this program is basically 'pilates on steriods,' and counts Victoria Secret models amongst its celebrity fans. Using a machine similar to the ones used in Reformer Pilates, a Lagree session is all about giving you an intense workout without putting pressure on your joints.

Restaurants

Ramen Danbo

Ramen Danbo has come a long way from their origins in Chikushino, on one of Japan’s southern islands. After opening their first store in 2000, news of their supreme noodles spread to the rest of the island, then the entire country, and now Ramen Danbo has gone global. Their new CBD store is their third in Brisbane, with two others in South Brisbane and Sunnybank, and we're lucky to get them.

Cafes

Cups On Wellington

If you're a fan of West End's Cups On Melbourne and Salisbury's Cups And Wells, you'll be stoked to know that the crew behind the cosy coffee and brunch spots have just opened a third venue to add to their collection, this one in East Brisbane. Taking over a space on the corner of Wellington and Waterloo Street, the small but gorgeous cafe is everything us millenials want in a coffee spot—think coral pink walls, Moroccan-inspired patterned tiles and neon lights, plus a tasty breakfast menu too of course.

Restaurants

Uh Oh Spaghettio

Forget everything you know about Italian food, because Uh Oh Spaghettio is coming to throw it all out the window. Opening in Bakery Lane in the Valley, this neon-lit, late night pasta joint is going to be all about experimental pasta flavours, funky tunes and good vibes.

Restaurants

The Prawnster

The Prawnster is 50-foot vintage prawn trawler that has found a new lease on life as a floating restaurant, with a small kitchen and prep area in the bow, and the stern converted into an undercover seating area, with benches lining both the starboard and port side, and one large timber table down the middle.

Bakeries & Delis

Dough Ma

Coming out of a hole-in-the-wall spot in Mt Gravatt, Dough Ma doughnuts are some of the fluffiest, most cream-filled doughnuts you'll find in all of Brisbane, and they come in more flavours than you can imagine. Walk up to their counter and you'll be treated to the sight of an array of rainbow-coloured round doughnuts filled with sweet whipped cream in flavours like strawberry cheesecake, jam and cream, tiramisu, cookies and cream, iced coffee and pistachio—and that's just the beginning.

Cafes

Botanical Lab

If you’re a bubble tea addict, you might well recognise West End’s newest flower-covered cafe. Botanical Lab moved to its new home on Melbourne Street from a hole-in-the-wall spot in Fortitude Valley’s Bakery Lane, bringing it’s dreamy soft serve, sweet bubble teas and adorable interiors with it.

Bakeries & Delis

Good Lookin’ Rooster

We know how often you finish work, or have a busy weekend, and get home tired and hungry with absolutely no desire to cook. Well next time it happens, instead of reaching for your phone to order Uber Eats, make a quick trip to Good Lookin' Chook, where you'll find a wholesome, ready-to-eat feast awaiting you.

Food & Drink

Persone Restaurant

There’s nothing we love more than pasta—except maybe pizza. And lucky for us, Italian favourite Persone is swinging their doors open again and dishing up both.

Health + Wellness

Vicalates

Vicalates is the baby of Victoria Spiliopoulos (get the cute play on words?), who, after spending some time in the States, noticed a distinct lack of boutique gyms in Brisbane—so she decided to open her own. Combining her pilates training and studies in art history and design, Victoria has created a gorgeous pink and white ‘grammable space, with quirky art lining the walls, from retro magazine covers to watercolour paintings.

Food & Drink

La Patrona

Taking over the former home of Sourced Grocer, Mexican joint La Patrona is almost unrecognizable from its former state, with recycled wood stairs leading up into a vibrant but relaxed dining space overlooked by a colourful mural depicting Day of the Dead-inspired figures and flowering cacti. On the menu, you’ll find a long list of dishes from Mexico’s Baijo region, including street food and family-style shared dishes.

Food & Drink

El Planta

Taking up residence on Hope Street, El Planta has finally opened its doors for dining in with a full menu of plant-based Mexican feeds. Though the venue is only small, more seating outside on the footpath ensures there’s plenty of room, while inside, the walls are lined with framed prints and cacti galore.

Cafes

Plentiful

Leafy Graceville is turning into quite the dining hub these days, with Plentiful the latest venue to join a growing list of foodie spots. The minimalist cafe opened back in March 2020, but promptly had to close it's doors again when the pandemic struck—but they're now back in action and dishing up delish breakfasts and lunches to hungry locals seven days a week.

Food & Drink

The Gift Shop

A cosy, relaxed venue in Mount Gravatt, The Gift Shop started out as a hole-in-the-wall spot for coffee and snacks, but has blossomed into a full-blown cafe where you can brunch on creative breakfasts that look as good as they taste. With both indoor and outdoor seating, there's room for you and your pooch, and a coffee hatch if you just want to grab and go.

Things To Do

Fox In A Box

Hailed as Europe’s best escape rooms, Fox in a Box opened its first location in Vienna in 2013. Since then, Fox has opened over 30 locations in four different continents and set a universal standard for escape rooms as a concept, with high tech systems and brilliant puzzles.

Bars & Pubs

Fritzenberger

Home to disturbingly good burgers, their infamous Twisties-dusted loaded fries (if you haven’t tried these yet you’ve straight-up failed at life) and plenty of ice cold beer on tap, Fritzenberger is the place to go if you're look for a good pub feed in South Bank.
