Emporium Hotel’s Signature restaurant has just transformed into FIRMA, a luxe destination for elevated Italian that aims to live up to Signature’s legacy (firma literally means ‘signature’ in Italian), but be enjoyed often, not just on special occasions. Newly stepping up to the plate to helm the kitchen is Italian Chef Alba Rizzo, who’ll be drawing on her Lombardy heritage to create rich, delicious dishes that celebrate seasonal ingredients and local culture. 

Bringing crispy fried chicken to the Redcliffe Peninsula is aKAH Chicken, a new hole-in-the-wall spot from the crew behind Brisbane’s Hanwoori and Shabu House. Here you can chow down on delicious chicken burgers, loaded fries and of course, plenty of golden, crispy fried chicken, with house made sauces for dunking and gluten-free options available.

If you haven’t heard of it, Supernormal is a bit of a Melbourne institution. Headed up by hospo legend Andrew McConnell, the popular eatery is reminiscent of a buzzing Asian dining hall, with a lobster roll on the menu that has a cult following. And now, it’s joining the growing list of southern venues and chefs heading our way, landing at the base of the mega new riverfront tower at 443 Queen Street.

From the hospo legends behind well-known breakfast spots Deedot Coffee House and Never Been, comes Tarragindi’s new toastie joint, Dijon. Here to shake up Brisbane’s sandwich scene, this suburban spot was inspired by the abundance of express lunch spots in Melbourne and is set to impress any lover of a good sandwich.

Paddington has a new Thai spot, and it comes to us from a talented kitchen duo—Bowyo Muangsong, co-owner of Newstead’s Ping Pong and executive chef at Yolk and Morning After, and her brother Yew. Meaning ‘come and taste it’ in Thai, Ma Chim is all about traditional Thai recipes inspired by the pair’s chef mum, dished up in a stylish but relaxed space on Baroona Road. 

After 15 years as the epicentre and long time favourite of Fortitude Valley’s party scene, Cloudland, has just had a major makeover, transforming their entire bottom floor into 200-seat Mediterranean-inspired Garden restaurant. While much of Cloudland’s signature stunning interiors (and those incredible function areas upstairs) remain, you’ll now find the ground floor bedecked in hardwood and marble tables, plush cushion seating, wrought iron pods and moody booths.

Now open in South Bank is Calida Argentinian, a fiery new Latin restaurant from the team behind Ole, Mucho Mexicano, Downtown Istanbul and neighbouring Vici Italian. Taking over the huge corner spot at the roundabout on Grey Street, this upmarket Argentine steakhouse is all about Latin flavours with modern Australian flair—and they're doing it in style.

Single O is one of Sydney's OG purveyors of fine bean juice. These guys have been championing and cheering caffeine in all its finer formats since 2003 and their pint-sized Surry Hills cafe was one of the spots where Sydney’s coffee culture really kicked off. After taking on Brisbane’s coffee scene with their first Queensland location opening in Newstead 2023, they've quickly become a local fave too—so much so that they've already had to expand the Austin Street cafe. 

Burgers and fro-yo are truly a match made in heaven, and it’s this combo that you’ll find on the menu at Yo My Goodness, a popular Melbourne eatery that has made its way north for the first time. Landing at Westfield Chermside, YOMG, as it’s known, is dishing up their signature burgers, shakes and self-serve frozen yoghurt with its own topping bar to a brand new Queensland audience.

From the team behind James Street’s famed James & Antler comes yet another sandwich-centric eatery, this one focused on the katsu sando. Landing just around the corner on McLachlan Street, Supernova combines sandos, soba and Japanese-inspired breakfast dishes in a leafy, relaxed space where you can sit down and enjoy your chosen meal with a decadent drink or two. 

The market for breakfast burgers has just expanded, with the Gold Coast's Two Yolks bringing their egg and bacon-loaded buns to South Brisbane from Monday 3 June. If you haven't heard of this Burleigh spot, their menu boasts no less than 11 different breakfast burgers, so you can bet that however you like your eggs, you're going to be covered here.

You’ve probably been to many a French patisserie in your time, but how about an Italian pasticceria? Woolloongabba’s newest bakery is just that, a buzzing, Italian-inspired bakery from a seasoned hospitality duo—Matteo Cerin (the pastry chef) and Giuseppe Caputo (a front-of-house superstar). 

Newly landed in West End’s West Village is Vela, a modern Thai restaurant from the Kinn Group, a crew of serial restaurateurs who are behind the likes of Kinn+Derm, Kinn Thai and more. This 200+ seater spot is a bonafide stunner and you should definitely book it for your next date night—a patchwork of textures, colours and finishes, it boasts cosy booths, marble tabeltops and neon artworks on the walls, not to mention an actual moon hanging over the bar—talk about setting the mood. 

Originated and perfected in the UK, crumble is taking the Australian dessert world by storm—but this new treat is not your nana's apple crumble. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait long for the craze to hit Brisbane, with Crumble Cave landing in the quiet streets of Newstead. Tucked into cafe and tapas bar Hive, this hole-in-the-wall dessert spot is here to sate your winter sugar cravings. 

You might have heard of 1st Edition, Fortitude Valley’s superhero-themed bar and eatery—the theatrical spot has made a name for itself thanks to its creative cocktails, delicious share plates and of course, the iconic superheroes adorning every inch of the venue. Well, the team behind 1st Edition are intent on creating an entire comic book quarter, with a new cocktail bar behind it in California Lane and another eatery soon to come. 

If you and your crew are the kind of friend group that can never decide on one cuisine for your dinner plans, a new venue that will solve all your problems has landed in the Chinatown Mall in the Valley. Coming to us from the team behind Buttery Boy, the pancake spot right next door, Mr Duncan is a massive restaurant and bar that features not one but four different kitchens, each with entirely unique menus. The collective-style concept means everyone in your group can order something completely different and eat them together—ideal for anyone with totally different tastes to their friends. 

All aboard the (sushi) train—Sushi Jiro has arrived at Westfield Chermside and is dishing up high-quality Japanese cuisine with a dining experience that is a new take on an old classic. While Sushi Jiro has over 20 venues in Victoria, this is their first Brisbane venture, and they’ve levelled up with the longest sushi train in the southern hemisphere, measuring an impressive 115 metres and seating 170. Just last year the Japanese brand unveiled the world’s first circular sushi training, spanning 30.6 metres, in Meblourne’s Westfield Doncaster, so they're accustomed to bringing the wow factor to their venues. 

If you’re familiar with the underground DJ scene in Brisbane you've probably stumbled upon this musical hub, which combines an DJ and production school, live-streaming DJ space and laneway bar. Proudly queer-owned, Hollee and Dara opened the iconic venue at the end of 2022 as an extension of their online forum and streaming hub next door, giving local musicians a new realm of possibilities and support in the local and online community.

If you're well-acquainted with Uncle Don in either Paddington or West End, then brace yourself for the new Woolloongabba edition, which is sleeker and bigger than ever. Landing inside the buzzing South City Square precinct, Uncle Don 3.0 has been created with both casual feeds and vibing nights out in mind, adding large group booths and a lengthy cocktail menu to their usual offering. 

If you, like us, shed a tear when Fatcow Steak & Lobster closed its doors in preparation for the demolition of Eagle Street Pier, we have good news. The Tassis Group has found a new location for their much-lauded steak restaurant, and it’s in the heart of James Street. Taking over 10 James Street, previously home to Space Furniture and David Jones, Fatcow has had a lavish glow-up in keeping with its new location, featuring two private dining rooms and circular booths surrounded by floor-to-ceiling curtains with mirrors on the ceiling above. 

Yet another stellar venue from the Tassis Group, who you’ll already know from Opa, Massimo, Fosh, Rich & Rare and the soon to open Fat Cow & Lobster, Longwang has just landed in the CBD, dishing up contemporary Asian fare to the masses. This stunning, two-and-a-half level, three-metre-wide venue has to be seen to be believed—wedged between two skyscrapers on Edward Street, it's a marvel of engineering, complete with retractable roofs on the top level for dining in the sun. 

After being covered in bright orange hoarding for months, the prime James Street space where Spoon Deli Cafe used to reside is now home to ēmmē, a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern-inspired venue eatery around a woodfire hearth in the kitchen. Open from morning to night (dinner services start from Wednesday 15 May), this stunning venue is the place for everything from a morning latte in your activewear to a swanky long lunch, and we can guarantee it’s going to be a new James Street fave.
