10 Ways To Have A Boss Sunday For Under $50

By Alice Joyce - 06 Dec 2017

Let’s have a show of hands; who here has been caught doing the ol’ stealth side-eye FB scroll mid conversation, or a quick pre-feed #foodporn post?

We’re guilty as charged.

Well our mates at Ford are here to rip that phone out of your hands (if you ask nicely, they might give it back to you for Google Maps) thanks to the Ford Escape SUV, which is the perfect accomplice for an awesome Sunday, sans screen.

#1 Go For A Camp At Wilsons Promontory

Grab your mates and head south to Wilsons Prom for the ultimate road trip. If you don’t want to go full Bear Grylls, then pitch a tent at Tidal River  where you’ll have some creature comforts (think hot showers and dishwashing stations, hell yes!) along with an open-air cinema in summer (fancy, huh?!).

Don’t forget to pack the Budgie Smugglers too because Norman Beach runs along one edge of the campsite and Tidal River along the other, so there’s plenty of places to take a dip and catch some rays.

#2 Get Your Cycle On Along The Bass Coast Rail Trail

Chuck the bike rack on the back of the car (we knew it would come in handy!), and get ready for some epic panoramic views out towards the Bass Strait. Start at Anderson and work your way along the 16km trail toward Kilcunda for a Sunday bike ride that’ll burn off those Saturday night calories. Winning!

#3 Walk To The Top Of Ruckers Hill To Watch The Sunset Over The City

For something a little closer to home, end your boss Sunday with an unbeatable Melbourne sunset (we’ll let you use your phone for this one!). Once you’ve nailed that #sunset post, top off your day with some cheap eats in Northcote —you’ve earnt it!

#4 Catch Some Waves Along The Great Ocean Road

What’s a road trip without a visit to The Great Ocean Road?! Whether you’ve been before or are a first timer, the west coast of Victoria is the perfect place to hang ten (or at least try). Try your hand at the famed break of Bells Beach just near Torquay, or head down towards Otway National Park to test out Anglesea, Lorne, and Apollo Bay—just make sure you shake off all the excess beach off your cossie, because no one likes sand in the car (or anywhere, TBH).

#5 Hike Falls Creek To Mount Hotham

This hike is not for the faint-hearted, but there’s a reason it’s on every walker’s ‘to do’ list. The full 37km Falls-Hotham Alpine Crossing will set you back two nights and will have you winding along alpine ridges, snow gum woodlands and rocky summits. In summer though, the alpine flowers will be in full bloom so you’ll (almost) forget about how sore your legs are! Look, we’ll forgive you for taking a quick Insta pic of the #florals.

#6 Have An Epic Food Feast In The Yarra Valley

Forget the wineries, because the Yarra Valley is also home to the greatest chocolate and sweet shop known to man. The Chocolaterie has free chocolate tastings (we repeat, FREE TASTINGS) and over 250 chocolate treats (think giant freckles, epic rocky road and choc-coated snakes).

If you’re craving something savoury after all that sugar (we get it), head on down to the Yarra Valley Dairy to eat allllllll the cheese your little heart could desire. An abundance of chocolate AND cheese?! Shut up and take our money!

#7 Embrace Your Inner Happy Gilmore With Adventure Mini Golf

Ever since Adam Sandler graced our screens as Happy Gilmore, we’ve all had a burning desire to channel our inner golf ‘pro’. But who wants to spend their Sunday walking around a full course?

Enter Yarra Bend’s Putt Putt mini golf course, where you can have a go at 36 adventure-themed holes and even get change from a fifty. We can’t confirm that you won’t be walking away with any prize money ala Gilmore, however we can confirm that it’s a pretty great way to spend a Sunday!

#8 Stand-Up Paddle Boarding In St Kilda

If Orlando Bloom taught us anything, it’s that stand-up paddleboarding definitely needs to be on our summer to-do list (well, among other things!). Head down to St Kilda for a sesh around Port Phillip Bay— word of advice though, maybe keep your clothes on for this one!

#9 Bowl And Dinner At Barefoot Bowls

Thought bowls was just for your grandma? Think again! Fill the car with your mates and head to barefoot bowls for the ultimate Sunday sesh.

Brunswick Bowling Club lets you hire a bbq so you can tuck into some sausage sangers between bowls. Or the massive Fitzroy Victoria Bowling and Sports Club, not only has 12 outdoor areas but decks, a bar, BBQ areas and a wood fire pizza oven, that’ll have you covered for one hell of a fun Sunday with your mates!

#10 Play Giant Jenga

Jenga is good at the best of times, but giant Jenga is even better! Stay local and head to 29th Apartment in St Kilda  to get stuck into some absolute classic board games that are all housed in a 1970’s Kelvinator fridge. Although Scrabble and Battleship are pretty epic games, if we’re honest, it’s hard to go past playing a game of giant Jenga!

So, whether you’re up for a massive roadie, or a down for a quick drive to some local hot spots, our mates at Ford have you covered with their Escape model, to make sure you turn your Sunday into one for the books (and we bet you don’t even miss your phone!).
