Everyone on the face of the planet might get slightly confused when it comes to the topic of how the earth came to be, how it is possible that goats can actually walk up vertical walls, and how Jennifer Lawrence's hair manages to be so damn perfect even at the apex of a district-wide war; but there's one thing that everyone can unanimously and universally agree upon. Melbourne does the best breakfast in the entire world. FACT.

So, in light of this irrefutable truth, we've scoured high and low and put together a list of the 30 best breakfasts in Melbourne right now that you absolutely should have eaten, and absolutely need to eat if you haven't.

N.B. The below are in no particular order. Picking a favourite would be harder than choosing a favourite child!! 

  1. Il Fornaio: ‘Eggs Ryan Gosling’ - devil’s artichoke, pepper hollandaise, ricotta, poached eggs

  2. Pillar of Salt: The 'Big Apple’ Loaf with buttermilk custard, woodfords reserve bourbon infused maple syrup, with bacon and walnut crumble

  3. Fifty Acres: chorizo scotch eggs with avocado, manchego, spinach and mustard

  4. Stagger Lee’s: ‘The Caveman Granola’ - toasted almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, coconut, cranberries and Medjool dates on a spiced pumpkin puree with coconut milk

  5. Ora: 'Spiced Tiffin Egg’ - soft boiled scotch egg in a cumin-infused cashew crumb on Bombay Hash of diced potatoes with saffron turmeric and mustard seed, served with kasundi and pickled cauliflower

  6. Golden Child: Malaysian massaman breakfast pot with fried pretzels

  7. Frank & Ginger: pea, feta and mint fritters with poached eggs, rocket, pancetta and spicy aioli
