Ah, the humble nugget. The pinnacle of chicken technology. We’re not too sure which bit of a chicken goes into making a nugget, and to be honest we don’t want to know. The important thing is: there’s a festival dedicated to nuggets, and it’s on this weekend.
Yep, Welcome To Thornbury are bringing back their famous chicken nugget festival. They sold more than 50,000 nugs last year, and all signs point to another ridonculous weekend.
What does a chicken nugget festival look like? Basically a sh*t-tonne of nuggets (what were you expecting?) The guys are also promising limited-edition spicy nuggets, a nugget burger, plus a range of dipping sauces from Melbourne Hot Sauce, including Thornbury’s own infamous Szechuan pepper scorcher. There's even a nugget hoagie this year.
Expect the usual motley food truck crew, including Belles Hot Chicken, Roadrunner Fried Chicken, Maverick n' Goose, The Real Jerk Food Truck, Sparrow's Philly Cheesesteaks and Mr Burger. The bar will be running all day, slinging beers and nugget-themed drink specials. Entry is free, as usual, and pooches are more than welcome.
Need a kicker? WTT will be selling limited-edition 'Nugs Not Drugs' t-shirts. You're gonna have to fight us for these. Not even joking.
Where: Welcome To Thornbury, 520 High St Northcote, Melbourne
When: 21 & 22 July, from 12pm

PS. Yeah, we went out and bought nuggets specifically to eat and take this photo. That's just the kind of journalists we are. You're welcome.
