Chicken Nugget and goon festival perth

If you had any plans this October, we’re afraid that you’re going to have to cancel them because Melbourne’s third annual Chicken Nugget Festival is coming to town.

Yes, Welcome to Thornbury is offering us an opportunity to pay worship to the high-and-mighty chicken nugget (and dipping sauce), so get pumped.

An estimated 50,000 nuggets were consumed at last year’s event – that’s probably more than you can build a boat with. More nugs are expected this year, as well as more happy campers coming to eat their favourite processed food.

Plating up the golden nuggets of glory will be a range of Melbourne’s finest nugsmiths (I swear that’s a real thing and not a phrase I just made up just now) including Mama Van, Sparrow’s Philly Cheesesteaks, and Donugs (with their incredible doughnut-nugget hybrid). There's even a nugget pizza this year. Don’t ask us how that works, we just know it’s going to be delicious.

So, what does a chicken nugget festival look like? Basically a sh*t-tonne of nuggets (what were you expecting?) and a whole lot of fun. The guys at Thornbury are also promising a hearty nugget burger, vegan nuggets plus a range of dipping sauces, including Thornbury’s own infamous Szechuan pepper scorcher.

With over 500 people already clicked ‘Going’ on Facebook and another 3,700 more interested, all signs point to another ridonculous weekend of frenzied nug eating. The bar will be running all day, slinging beers and nugget-themed drink specials. Entry is free, as usual, and pooches are more than welcome.

Now it’s up to you. Nuggets. Get around ’em.
