Combining their industry experience, the owners of Sydney Road favourite, Two Little Pigs are opening a new haunt in the Brunswick East sector of Lygon Street. Following their Sydney Road success, John Ioannou and Terrance Farrugia are turning up the heat and the calories for a store dedicated to what is both Fried and Tasty.
The fit-out of F.A.T. Fried and Tasty may look fresh, but the business already has a history spanning over 35 years. John’s parents, Andrew and Freda, who have also partnered in the business, serve as the inspiration behind the concept. Running a fried chicken institution in Lorne for 35 years, the secret seasoning recipe that even had the colonel wondering has finally been handed down. You could go as far to call them “seasoned” pros.
“We wanted it to be modern and industrial, but with an old school feel,” said Terrance. F.A.T. Fried and Tasty’s retro-industrial look is highlighted throughout the Lygon Street fried chicken shop, with orange booths, pendant lights overhead and playful signage. “This is sort of similar to what my Dad’s store looks like,” remarks John.
When it comes to the food, the menu is a gluttonous fried frenzy, and as the name suggests, fried and tasty. Expect classics like chicken and buttermilk waffles with ice-cream and pure Canadian maple syrup, mild and hot fried chicken, as well as their F.A.T’s take on poutine. As far as quenching your thirst, the team has Melbourne Bitters alongside two craft beers on tap, as well as a comprehensive wine list. You will also find hangover-friendly options in the form of apple pie and milo thick shakes.
Thankfully, you don’t have to wait long to dig in to some of Melbourne’s best fried chicken. John and Terrance will be opening their doors to a mouth-watering public on July 30th.
