At The Urban List, we love a little refined decadence on a summer’s evening. We also love gin. So when news about a gin-focused new bar in Fitzroy landed on our desk, we couldn’t wait to check it out.
G&Tea Gin Garden—the latest project from The Rum Diary Bar’s Hamish Goonetilleke and Majority Cafe's Laura Rosadoni—opens next Thursday, serving gin and high tea to Fitzroy’s finest. Taking over the Majority space on the corner of Kerr Street and Brunswick Street, the G&Tea Gin Garden team have transformed the space into the perfect summer garden experience, complete with teacups, French fancies and an outdoor seating area.
Don’t expect to get away with ordering a gin and tonic, though. The Garden’s exceptional team includes Andy Griffiths and Daniel Monk, two of Melbourne’s top up-and-coming mixologists, who will be serving a comprehensive list of reinvented classics that includes a heavenly quince-infused green tea French 75.
The accompanying food menu isn’t light on the luxury either. In a reimagining of traditional British high tea (think tiered cake stands and tiny forks), G&Tea Gin Garden will be serving platters of sweet and savoury bites. Start with some pork and apple sausage rolls with ginger green tea marmalade and finish up with the beautifully fluffy lime, gin and coconut lamingtons.
Currently keeping a selection of over 60 local and international gins, and planning to grow the house collection to over 200 before the year is out, this is one new Melbourne bar we’ll be watching over the coming months. Oh, gin.
