If you’ve ever been to hidden Fitzroy cocktail bar The Everleigh, you’ll know that they take their cocktails seriously, which is why we are SO excited to announce the Gertrude Street crew’s latest CBD bar, Heartbreaker. Combining the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles with some damn fine hard liquor, the soon-to-open Russell Street venue sounds like juuust the slice of American retro that Melbourne needs right now.
Taking only a few cues from its sister, this new Melbourne cocktail bar is all about getting down and dirty in a late-night drinking den. Yes, you’ll be drinking all the classics at Heartbreaker, including Old Fashioneds, Negronis and dirty Martinis, but the crystal glassware and touch of class that’s put The Everleigh on Melbourne’s cocktail map is nowhere to be seen. Instead, you’ll find pre-mixed bottle-aged renditions of your favourite drinks, served straight form the neck, as well as a pool table, a retro kitchen and a jukebox.
The project is the lovechild of Everleigh founder Michael Madrusan and cocktail maestro Sebastian Reaburn, who previously worked with some of Melbourne’s best cocktail bars, including 1806 and Vue de Monde. Expect stiff drinks, good tunes and late-night last orders when Heartbreaker opens its doors for dirty business this August.
