6 Melbourne Winter Gigs You’re Gonna Want To Catch This Year

By Kate Bartels
22nd May 2018

Winter might mean fewer rooftop bars or weekend boozy picnics, but we can do you one better. During June and July there are a ton of awesome gigs on to keep you toasty and satisfy your dancing feet. Not to mention Splendour In The Grass sideshows, kick-ass arena spectaculars and your classic corner hotel type stuff. Here’s where all your favourite artists are playing this winter.

Patrick Topping

For the techno lovers, this isn't one you’ll want to miss. Internationally acclaimed DJ Patrick Topping is gracing our shores from the UK, and it's sure to be a sweat fest.

Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick is the name on everybody's lips right now, and besides from the small job of headlining Splendour In The Grass, Kendrick is performing two shows at Rod Laver. You know that they will be huge, so if you’re a Kendrick fan (or a human) you’d be best to get your butt there.

Where: Rod Laver Arena
When: 13 & 14 July

If you’re into a cool pop sound performed by a badass front-lady, check out Chvches (pronounced like churches.) They've just released a new single, and with a new album rumoured you might be lucky enough to hear some brand new music.

Where: Margaret Court Arena
When: 23 July

Electric Feel was everyone's favourite high school disco jam. We never really understood it, but we loved it anyway. The guys are popping into Melbourne after their Splendour set, and boy are we excited. They (of course) have a ton of other bangers at the ready for your eardrums. They are joining forces with Franz Ferdinand on this one, so you can expect nothing short of epic.

When: 24 July

The Wombats

It’s been a short lifetime since the wombats last toured, and with some ripper music since their last show, you’d be a damn fool to sit this one out. For lovers of indie rock and British bands, this one’s for you! If this is a rom com, kill the Director...

The Presets

The Presets are going on tour and its bound to get very, very sweaty (maybe that rooftop drink won’t seem so far-fetched after all). The Aussie electronic legends are getting ready to provide you with some serious beats, and we can barely wait. They are about to release their first album in over 6 years. The hype is real.
