She was the poster girl for 90s misfits. Little Women, Girl, Interrupted, Beetlejuice (Beetlejuice...Beetlejuice...)—Winona Ryder was the shiz for a while there. And she’s had a bit of cult resurgence lately, thanks to stealing the show on Stranger Things.
And the good old guys at Howler have decided to get on board. They’re throwing a three-day beanbag cinema experience, dedicated to everything Winona Ryder. It’s called WINONA FOREVER.
If you didn’t know, these guys were the ones responsible for bringing the Twin Peaks Black Lodge to Melbourne last year, AND recreating the Enchantment Under the Sea dance from Back to the Future. They even prayed at the Alter of Murray with a dedicated Bill Murraython. So when they say they’re celebrating Winona Ryder, you know it’s not gonna be half-assed.
Guests are invited to light a candle, dress in black, and pay their solemn respects to Ms Ryder at three beanbag movie screenings. Reality Bites (7 June), Edward Scissorhands (8 June) and Mermaids & Heathers (a double feature on Sat 9 June).
Everyone except Johnny Depp is invited. There’ll be food, booze and a rocking good time. Shoplifting is frowned upon.
Where: Howler, 7-11 Dawson St, Brunswick
When: 7 – 9 June
