Start practising your bonjournos, team. Melbourne’s extra cheesy Italian Food & Wine Festival is back this Sunday at the Royal Exhibition Building.
If you missed this one last year, here’s a little run-down of what to expect. The city’s entire Italian food community descends on the REB, bringing in truckloads of prosciutto, arancini, gnocchi, porchetta-stuffed panini, panna cotta, gelato, Piedmont truffle oil and imported wine as is humanly possible. It’s like a Sunday BBQ at the Soprano household (minus the intrigue).
This year, all your favourites are back. Johnny di Francesco and the 400 Gradi crew will be on-site slinging the pizzas, plus there’ll be pop-up restaurants from Mister Bianco, Massi, Saluministi, Bottega, La Svolta and FIGO.
Over 200 Italian wines will be on show (with obligatory tastings), and there’s even a dedicated Italian marketplace featuring all the arrosticini, pallotte, pizzelle, crostata, cantucci and biscotti you can stuff in your pockets. Plus (and don’t miss this one) the award-winning Mandorla Affogato from Sydney’s cult gelato bar, Cow And The Moon. Seriously, this stuff is bomb.
Tickets are $25 a pop (which you’ll more than make back in tastings), and that even covers an espresso, bottle of water, and entry to the cooking demonstrations. You can start booking over here.
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in...
