North vs South | Best of Both Sides Festival

By Ella Pleasant - 12 Apr 2014

Any Melburnian can tell you about the underlying feud between North and South.

Divided by the murky waters of the Yarra, these two sides have always been at odds on who has the trendiest inhabitants, slickest eateries and hippest watering holes.

Southside's Lucky Coq, along with Bimbo Deluxe and The Penny Black in the North, know all too well how deep this rivalry runs. Well, dear readers, this Easter weekend, these three drinking establishments will attempt to answer the age-old question of which region reigns supreme. How, you ask?

Meet Best of Both Sides – a five-night festival that will see Northside hipster rockers going head-to-head with Southside's trendiest DJs in the ultimate test of which side rocks the hardest.

Kicking off on the 17th of April, the cross-city festival will showcase the very best in electronic culture, visual entertainment, booze and home-grown musical talent, with over 50 musical acts playing everything from house to hip hop, rock to reggae, and all musical styles in between. Program highlights include up-and-comers DJ Who, Silversix and Doakes, as well as Melbourne stalwarts Nick Coleman, Mz Rizk and Matt Radovich.

Those sitting on the fence can sample the best of both sides with free buses running from venue to venue throughout the festival. Jump on the bus, head over the Yarra and you'll receive a free drink on arrival (Stolen Spiced Rum or Little Creatures Bright Ale, no less!), all for the simple act of crossing the river.

So, how much will all this rockin' fun cost you? Not a single cent! That's right, you can enjoy five nights of Melbourne's best music, booze and unlimited goodtime vibes for absolutely NADA.

What's more, Best of Both Sides has teamed up with Uber and Aston Club to offer the ultimate VIP experience to a lucky festival goer, giving you the chance to win free transportation in Uber cars and a $300 Aston bar tab. Sweet deal!

So, just to clarify, that's 21 parties over 5 days, 3 venues and 6 stages, with over 50 musical acts playing. All this for free? It's quite possibly the ultimate Easter shindig. Get on it!
