Spring is well and truly underway in Melbourne. The sun is fighting back the fog (slowly), and we're ready to throw our scarves in the cupboard and never look back (until summer, when we'll be saying forty-WHAT-degrees?). Time to bring out the florals, the colourful lipstick (what, not for you lads?), and the sunglasses. While you're looking suitably fresh, may as well check out some of the best things to do in Melbourne this weekend! Right? Right on.
Contemporary chef and restaurateur — aka genius — Scott Pickett (Saint Crispin & Estelle) is jumping on board the Market Week celebrations. Head down to The Queen Victoria Market for a 'Seasonal Stars' session; a free public event where Melbourne chefs will present seasonal recipes and tastings. The hour of tasty fun kicks off at 11:30am, but also runs across Friday and Saturday for all you workaholics. Look out for other Market Week activities such as the Wine Tasting Trail and the Mooncake Festival.

Melburnians, it's time for a bit of gratitude and generosity. You're all lucky enough to live in one of the best (friendliest) cities in the world, so spare a thought for those less fortunate. This Thursday, the wonderful Victorian Union Activists have organised a benefit to raise money for APHEDA's humanitarian appeal; to support emergency relief to Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip affected by the recent Israeli military attacks. Held at the Bella Union Trades Hall, and featuring sounds from Casey Bennetto and his four piece band; The Half-Arsed Three, as well as DJ Brunswick Massive; there will be plenty to shimmy to, not to mention finger food, door prizes and a silent auction. So loosen those purse strings ladies and gents for this worthy cause.
Benefit for Gaza | Bella Union Trades Hall in Carlton South | $35 ($40 at the door)
Funny man Bob Franklin heads this kidney-grabbing (from laughter, not food poisoning) show that is Five Boroughs Comedy. Think two hours of the best local, interstate, and international comedy acts. Your cheeks will need a massage after this evening of laughs… and no, not those cheeks (get your mind out of the gutter)!

Exploring the revolution of the consumer in the area of production, The Future Is Here exhibition at the RMIT design hub is one thing to do in Melbourne you don't want to miss. Don't understand what all those big words actually mean? Head down to the gallery to check out the visual — us Melbournians are very visual creatures (VISUAL, not visceral, geez!). Thursday at 12:30pm sees exhibition designer Roland Snooks give a floor talk. Maybe he can answer some of your more visceral questions (no promises, though). The Future Is Here exhibition runs until the 11th of October.

We went to the first of this month's mixology sessions and, we've gotta say, with five dishes and matching cocktails for just $95, this deal is pretty darn schmick. What's on the menu, you ask? First up is a delectable shrimp dish with BBQ ginger, beetroot spaghetti, wasabi oil, mirin and shoye dressing, matched with a Sakura cocktail, a glorious Japanese take on the mojito with sake, lime, cherry boiron, yuzu, sugar and mint leaves. The rest of the menu? Let's just say we think we're turning Japanese, turning Japanese, we really think so! The theme changes every month, so stay tuned for more, Listers.
