The MINI Edition | Top 10 Things to do in Melbourne in June

By Pip Jarvis - 01 Jun 2015

It’s official—winter is here and, baby it’s cold outside. We know it’s pretty tempting to whip out that Snuggie and get your hibernation on, but it just won’t do, Listers! There is just too much awesomeness going on in Melbourne this month—from juicy new burgers to gigantic cocktails, high-end hot choccie and next level glamping, it’s time to don your beanie and get amongst it.

Welcome to the June MINI Edition, counting down the top 10 things to do in Melbourne this month. You’re welcome.

10. Winter Night Market at QVM

Hump Days are hotting up this winter, with the return of Queen Vic Market’s Winter Night Market. Kicking off on 3rd June and running until the end of August, this year’s offering is even bigger and better. Think mulled wine, crackling fires, roving entertainment, over 30 amazing street vendors (including Bluebonnet BBQ and 400 Gradi), plus an all new CHEESE & WINE BAR. Wednesday nights sorted.

9. Must-try New Opening: Easey’s

We have been waiting for this one for months, Listers! Easey’s—the one and only rooftop-train-carriage-graffiti-gallery-burger-joint has arrived. Dishing up some of the city’s best cheeseburgers plus epic potato cakes, it’s one Melbourne restaurant opening that’s worth the hype. Plus, they take bookings!

8. Victorian Ski Season Opens

Get excited, snow bunnies! 6th of June marks the official start of the 2015 ski season. I’m already planning that Après-ski wardrobe

7. Coburg Drive-In Food Truck Festival

We love movies. We love food trucks. So we really, really love the folks at Coburg Drive-In who are bringing our loves together this June for two cosy nights of flicks and eats. Grab a blankie and your boo and enjoy a retro winter date this June 17th and 18th. Check the website for session details.

6. Sate Your Sweet Tooth at Bibelot

From the team behind cult South Melbourne cafe, Chez Dré, comes Bibelot. Step inside this gorgeous Coventry Street dessert parlour and high-tea hot spot and prepare to droooool. From the packed cabinets of glistening, decadent cakes and pastel macarons, to the ice-cream bar and shelves stacked with chocolate, honey and never-ending saccharine delights, Bibelot is what sweet dreams are made of.

5. Say Aloha to Aloha Sailor

Housed in the basement of The Noble Experiment, this Collingwood tiki bar is our new favourite hang. We could say it’s for the comfy booths and chilled out vibe, but it’s the Royal Treasure Chest that’s won our cold wintry hearts. Or, to be specific, a barrel-aged rum blend of 18 different rums, including 4 OP rums, black raspberry liqueur, Aperol, citrus, rock candy syrup, falernum (no we don’t know what that is either), charged apple, pink grapefruit and chamomile, topped with Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque.  Delivered to your table in a “treasure chest” (cos jugs are soo passé). It’s $350, but how can you put a price on the BEST NIGHT EVER?!

4. Warm Your Cockles at Mörk Chocolate Brew House

Nothing says winter like a piping cup of hot choccie. Luckily, you can call off the search, because we’ve found the best hot chocolate in Melbourne! The things the team at Mörk Chocolate Brew House do with chocolate will blow your mind! Like chocolate flavoured soda—it’s a thing. But it’s the theatrical Campfire Hot Chocolate that is a must-order. Seriously. We order you to order it.

3. Must-try: Miss Katie’s Crab Shack at The Rochey

Our favourite seafood siren, Miss Katie, has upped (crab)sticks and relocated her beloved crabshack to the awesomely refurbed Rochester Hotel in Fitzroy. Don your bib and dig into a delicious crab boil with all the trimmings.

2. Messina Opens in Richmond

In the most exciting news for 3121 residents since, well, ever, Gelato Messina is set to open up its second Melbourne outpost. Opening this month of Swan Street, now it’s even easier to get your mitten-clad mitts on Melbourne’s best gelato. Yes we know it’s cold. But when the eating’s this good, we don’t give a damn.

1. Get Your Glamp on at St Jerome’s Rooftop Camping Hotel

If you must camp, there really is only one way to do it—in a luxury, ginormous tent, on a rooftop, in fine linen on a gloriously comfy bed, with easy access to gourmet food and expertly mixed drinks… Welcome to St Jerome’s – The Hotel, currently popping up on the Melbourne Central rooftop. Visit the website for booking information.
