An Urban Lister’s Day Out in Melbourne

By Jessica Hackett - 07 Apr 2014

Here at The Urban List, we like to think of ourselves as Melburnians' very own personal concierge, working tirelessly behind the scenes to bring you the answers to questions you didn't even know you had.

Where to get Melbourne's best avo on toast? Who is open late on a Monday? Who does the ultimate cut and colour? We've asked these questions, and more, in the course of our daily rummagings.

Being the lucky ducks that we are, trawling the streets of Melbourne to even its most hidden corners and darkest of nooks and crannies is our job. But for the time poor folks out there, it can be overwhelming choosing where to spend the precious hours you have, when there are so many great options…

We're here to help you, dear Listers!

We recently sent lucky reader Angela to a few of our very favourite spots, treating her to a day out on us. Here's where she headed on her day out… we suggest you check out these hotspots too!

Breakfast

Hammer & Tong 412

There can be no doubt that Hammer & Tong has become a Melbourne breakfast/brunch institution. Described as an 'eating house and coffee bar', chef Simon Ward (of Vue de Monde heritage) serves up classics with a twist and offers options to make your mouth water. The soft shell crab burger is our personal favourite!

Mid-morning Pamper Sesh

Miss Fox

A day spa located on Little Collins Street in the CBD, Miss Fox is our go-to destination for relaxation and beautification. Exclusively featuring products by Shiffa Dubai, every treatment here is of world-class standard. Miss Fox's signature day spa is a truly decadent experience, and the perfect way to spend any morning in Melbourne. Top off your session with a MediSpa if you know what's good for you!

Lunch

Oscar Cooper

A Melbourne café really hitting its straps, Oscar Cooper has the menu, coffee, staff, fit-out and location nailed – the whole package! The all day breakfast and lunch menu boasts fresh ingredients; our personal favourites including Nanna's Zucchini Slice, Chicken and Mango salad, the baked eggs and pulled pork sliders. Also, be warned, they've got one of Melbourne's best burgers. Fact. Topping it off with fresh juices, smoothies and $10 espresso martinis…Oscar Cooper can't be beat for lunch!
