You beauty—a long weekend so early in the year! Just the thing we all need after the shock of returning to work. If you’ve been busy getting caught up in the corporate grind, and haven’t had time to suss out what’s on in Melbourne for Australia Day, well relax Max, we’ve got you covered.

Here’s our round up of parties, events, and celebrations galore, because this Australia Day Melbourne has laid out the spread—complete with lamingtons and snags—to provide you with plenty of fun things to do this long weekend!

The Emerson | South Yarra

The Emerson in South Yarra is planning a ridiculously long, long weekend! Festivities are set to begin on Friday night, with live performances. Saturday will play host to John Course and Andy Murphy, with Sunday slinging out a complimentary gourmet BBQ! What’s on for Australia Day? DJ Beni will be playing throughout the day, again with some sexy snags on offer (we’re talking about the BBQ!).

Aviary Hotel | Abbotsford

The Aviary Hotel are celebrating all through the Australia Day long weekend in Melbourne, with Friday and Saturday happy hours, live DJs daily, and Triple J’s Hottest 100 live on Monday. Look out for a BBQ in the beer garden, and a delicious mixed grill plate with all the Aussie classics. $18 cocktail jugs will make this an Australia Day party to remember!

Campari House | Melbourne CBD

Campari House is toasting the Australia Day long weekend in Melbourne with a live DJ on Sunday playing mashups of the previous year’s hottest 100! On Australia Day itself, they’re hosting a rooftop recovery session from midday, playing Triple J’s Hottest 100 live—complemented with $7 Canadian Club with lime and soda specials!

When: 7pm, Sunday 25th January and 12pm, Monday 26th January

Builders Arms Hotel | Fitzroy

The Builders Arms Hotel in Fitzroy is throwing multiple barbecues to celebrate this widely celebrated Aussie holiday! Saturday and Sunday will see a sturdy BBQ serving up snags from midday, with a DJ spinning tunes on Sunday evening. Brunch on Australia Day will be served from 9am. Our pick? The Bloody Mary to help recover from the night before!

College Lawn Hotel | Prahran

Let Triple J’s Hottest 100 serenade you all Australia Day long at the College Lawn Hotel in Prahran. With a $15 BBQ lunch, and a special Aussie menu, head to this iconic Melbourne pub to celebrate Australia day in Melbourne in true-blue tradition! Australia Day Eve sees Johnny Wonderpants and a DJ live from 6pm for some pre-game fun, too!

The Grosvenor | St Kilda East

The Grosvenor is hosting an Australia Day Eve barbeque for all the beef-loving Aussies! Serving up an all-you-can-eat BBQ for only $19 per person, followed by a traditional Aussie Pavlova and trifle, even dear old Gran will want to stop by! There will be door prizes, and a very smile-inducing extended happy hour running from 12pm - 7pm!

Moonlight Cinema | Melbourne CBD

If you’re not into the party scene, but still want to celebrate the occasion of Australia Day eve by kicking your thong-clad-feet up, then head to Moonlight Cinema’s session of The Water Diviner on Sunday night. Portraying a unique Australian story with a great Australian cast, lie back and relax among the beautiful botanic gardens. How Aussie is that!

Brunswick Street Cider House | Fitzroy

It’s no secret we love a good cider here at The Urban List, which is why we’re hella excited for AusFest 2015 at Brunswick Street Cider House! As Australia’s first dedicated cider bar, the Brunswick Street Cider House will once again be hosting a pop-up cider garden for Australia Day. $28 buys you entry, a personal stein filled with your choice of 27 craft ciders or beers on tap, one lip-smacking pork roll (there’s also a vegan option if you’re interested) plus apple crumble for dessert—errr, can you say YUM?! Hanging Rock Recreation Reserve | Woodend

Place your bets at the Australia Day Races at Hanging Rock. Dress up and enjoy the Aussie holiday in style with your frocks, fascinators and fancy suits, and spend Australia day at this iconic Australian location.

Wharf Hotel | Melbourne CBD

Wondering what’s on in Melbourne this Australia Day for beer lovers? The Wharf Hotel is hosting a Triple J Hottest 100 party, with free entry and $8 Heineken schooners! With its great riverside location, this great Melbourne pub is set to bring in a big crowd this Australia Day. Entry is free however RSVP is required here.

The Prince Band Room | St Kilda

If you’re looking for things to do in St Kilda, the Prince Band Room is livening things up a bit, with Tex Perkins and the Ape, British India, Harts and The Cherry Dolls performing for a live show! With an Aussie barbie on the balcony from 4-7pm, rock the night away at The Prince Band Room!

NewQuay Australia Day Fireworks | Docklands

If you’re after some family-friendly things to do in Melbourne for Australia Day, head down to Docklands for an afternoon of fun! The NewQuay Piazza will host performances from The Voice Australia, Strictly Ballroom the Musical and Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance. The Promenade is set to host an epic market, with roving performers, face painting, activities, games and giveaways! A charity sausage sizzle will set your sniffers singing, but maybe wait to snack on some snags until you’ve abseiled in the action and sports zone! The main agenda though is the fireworks! With the best view in town, watch the engaging display after sun down.

The Village | Melbourne CBD

Melbourne’s largest beer garden is celebrating a combination of Australia Day, and the 5th birthday of The Hills Cider Company! The Village is one of only five venues chosen for the release of a limited edition 5 hop Australia Day cider, with a free keg tapped at midday! We’ll cheers to that! There will also be $5 Australian craft beer specials, and an Aussie-themed menu complete with cocktail jugs. Listen to Triple J round up the Hottest 100 while sipping on some great Aussie brews.

Australia Day Parade | Melbourne CBD

From 11am on Australia Day, witness the vibrant and multicultural Australia Day Parade. Celebrating Victorians from all walks of life, the parade traverses Swanston Street, across Princess Bridge towards Kings Domain. With special recognition this year going towards the men and women who serve in local communities across the state, our emergency services volunteers.  Witness the Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony at the Melbourne Town Hall beforehand, then snag a good spot among the thousands of people making up the enthusiastic crowd!

Bad Frankie | Fitzroy

If you fancy yourself a connoisseur of Australian craft spirits (or those three words just sound darn enticing), then snag a spot at Bad Frankie in Fitzroy this Australia Day. Offering drops from Lark and Sullivan's Cove, Four Pillars, Melbourne Gin Company and Hoochery and Black Gate, they’re mixing things up with some local Australian herbs and flavours for some brilliantly Aussie cocktails. With beer and cider coming from locals Temple Brewing Co. and Mountain Goat, whatever your flavour—you’re all set! Food is your flavour you say? How outrageous…naaat. Bad Frankie are serving up some Lamington jaffles that have us pretty close to exploding with excitement, as well as a Kangaroo and classic cheese with Vegemite jaffle!

Coppersmith Hotel | South Melbourne

Wondering what’s on this Australia Day at your South Melbourne local? Head to the Coppersmith Hotel from 1pm to partake in an awesome Aussie BBQ on the rooftop! $25 per person sees guests feasting on a plate of gourmet sausages, lamb and prawns, Aussie beer, bubbles or wine! It’s all about Aussie drops on Australia Day at the Coppersmith.

The Railway Hotel | Windsor

If you’re hanging out for some iconic Australian food, then head to Windsor’s lovely sun-drenched deck at The Railway Hotel. Enjoy a fine-dining take on the classic snag sandwich, accompanied with some great Australian craft beer, spirits and wine. Everything served will be Australian, so you can feel true-blue while you turn true red. Unless you remembered the sun cream!

Havaianas Australia Day Thong Challenge | Torquay

Okay, so the Havaianas Australia Day Thong Challenge isn’t technically in Melbourne however it’s still one of our favourite ways to celebrate our national day! For the uninitiated, the Australia Day Thong Challenge at Torquay Beach is an annual attempt to break the world record for largest number of inflatable Havaiana thongs on the water. Each year the event gets bigger and bigger, and this year’s 10th anniversary is no different! Not only is the Challenge a great way to celebrate Australia Day, it’s also a brilliant fundraiser with $10 from every registration is donated to the local surf club…this year Havaianas are aiming to raise $75,000! Registrations are now open – what are you waiting for?!

The Yard Party | Your Joint

If you’re planning your own shindig, then get on board with this awesome initiative inspiring multicultural acceptance. The Yard Party is selling kits for your very own yard party, including The Ja Joint’s Jamaican BBQ Feast products and recipes, a discount voucher for some Budgy Smugglers, and more. When you purchase a kit, the proceeds go directly to employing marginalised African refugees who have faced discrimination.
