Everything Open This Grand Final Weekend

Ah, Grand Final Weekend. Possibly the most Australian public holiday of them all (apart from ANZAC Day, obvs). Whether you follow footy or not, everyone can get passionate about a three-day weekend on 28 September. 

At the moment, it looks like most places will be open, but check with your local if you're not sure. Here's what we've found so far. The best cafes, bars and restaurants open on Grand Final Friday in Melbourne. 



Abbotsford’s cool-as industrial-chic café not only does damn good coffee, but it's keeping its doors open this Grand Final Friday. Come down early if you’re wanting to beat the crowds.

Open: 8am – 4pm, Friday (Kitchen closes at 3pm)

Who would've thought this former 1850s prisoner workhouse could make such good coffee? Get on down to The Boot Factory and treat yo self to their all-day brekky menu—it'll be running all weekend.

Rain or shine, nothing says 'long-weekend' better than a few scoops of sweet, creamy gelato. Both Pidapipo’s Lygon St and Chapel St stores will be open for business.

Tucked away in Hawthorn, the land of booming cafe brunch spots, Short Straw Cafe is here for you this Grand Final Day. Whether you're looking for a quick caffeine fix, a sweet treat or a damn good smashed avo, you can't go wrong at this joint.

One of Bentleigh's newest additions, Good Times Milk Bar, has got you covered. Bring your pup, wrap your lips around a juicy beef burger and slurp up a vanilla milkshake.

This one's for the Southsiders. If you're not keen on making you're way to The Half Moon and being wedged between 50 million people, you'll be happy to know that Frank's is open on Grand Final Friday.

Probs one of South Melbourne's edgiest brunch bars, St ALi will be keeping its doors open on the 28th. In fact we don't think they ever close.

Celebrate GF weekend in style with truffle scrambled eggs or 18-hour pork belly at Turning Point in Ripponlea.

Oh baby. Screw the (probably expired) footy hotdogs and room temperature pies. You're better than that. Stuff your face with pizza this long weekend instead. Baby's open till late on Friday.

You know that anything related to Baby Pizza and Chin Chin has gotta dish out the goods. Kong will be serving up all the Asian BBQ goodness this Grand Final Day.

Here lies the place that can do no wrong. Ichi Ni Nana will be open for business and pumping out all of your Japense favs.

If you're a little more south but still want the Nana experience, give Ichi Ni a try. Best Japanese in St Kilda.

Mr Miyagi

Myagi won't be open Friday, but it is open 12pm till late on Saturday and Sunday. Maybe a cheeky post-game serve of Miyagi Fried Chicken (MFC)?

Maybe while everyone's out watching the footy, it won't take you 10 hours to get to the front of the line at Chin Chin

If you've got a bit of extra cash dollar to spend, it'd be rude not to head to Kisumé. Very fancy for the footy, but still...

It'd be rude not to embark on a little day-drinking adventure on the long weekend, wouldn't it? Pour a couple of red's down your throat at Terindah Estate

Every D-List celeb's fav joint will of course be open for business this weekend. Enjoy some first-class meals with a beach view to match at the Stokehouse.

If you’re looking for somewhere a little different to impress the out-of-towners (who have no idea what all this footy fuss is) Cutler & Co in Fitzroy is the way to go. The team will be running their A La Carte menu, Chef's Selection Menu and 6-course degustation as per. Get the heck around it.

More Pizza, more power. Fatto will be running all weekend, and it's within walking distance of the G. Nice.

Long weekends call for some cheeky splurges, right? Get your butt to Tokyo Tina and wrap your gob around their karaage chicken.

Holy seafood. Hit up Neptune if you're after the best spanner crab linguini you'll probs ever have in your life. There’s a sh*t tone of wines to try as well, so prepare to get a little silly (in true Aussie Grand Final style).

Belles Hot Chicken

Belles is running a special pre-game bottomless brunch on GF weekend (they're taking bookings from 10am on Friday and Saturday). If you're running late, they're also doing express spicy chicken sangers for $10 (!!)

Here's the place to come if you're seeking a quick bite to eat and a few cheeky bevs. It'll be open till late on Friday.

It wouldn't be a long weekend without a night on Chapel Street. Speakeasy gets it, which is why they're open on Friday.

Welcome To Thornbury

The legends at WTT are chucking a big Grand Final Party on Saturday. There's gonna be pre-game drinks specials and DJs, and entry is free. Kick things up a notch with the pre-game party pack: bottomless mimosas, espresso martinis, beer, food and a guaranteed seat.

In the heart of St Kilda lies one of the best eatery and beer gardens in Melbs. The Newmarket Hotel will be dishing up all of our favs this weekend (we recommend the Southern Fried Chicken Burger). Get around it.

It doesn't get much better than some arvo bevs and nibbles on the Yarra. Good thing we've always got Arbory.

Damn, Chapel Street, you've done it again. One of Windsor's newest cocktail bars, LOVER, will be open and ready to rumble. PSA: there's a late night kitchen running too.

For something a little more intimate, head down to the Pilgrim Bar. With Yarra views and boutique Aussie wines, not even the backside of footy players can beat this place.
