Victoria’s Got It’s Own (Very Small) Burning Man Festival This Weekend

By James Shackell - 23 Jun 2018

So yesterday was the Winter Solstice, officially the darkest, shortest day of the year (which is probably why your toes froze off in bed last night). And, as usual, Port Fairy are getting in on the action.

Australia’s regional answer to The Vicar Of Dibley is in the midst of its massive annual Winter Weekend Festival, and tonight they’re running a (very small) Burning Man Winter Solstice Feast.

Here’s how it’s gonna work. $50 gets you a ticket to the Limestone Gallery on the Princes Highway. You’ll be treated to a scrumptious 5-course winter dinner, and Limestone’s famous ‘Wicker Man’ will be burning all night long. It’s not exactly a 50-foot human bonfire in the deserts of Nevada, but it’s about as close as you’ll get in Victorian cow country.

If you can’t get into Burning Man (tickets are limited), there’s a whole bunch of other stuff running for Port Fairy’s Winter Weekend Fest: Ghost tours in the town cemetery after dark, the classic Port Fairy Fairy Hunt, and a community market running till 1pm. You can check out the full program here.

God bless you, Port Fairy. Keep being weird.
