This Weekend In Perth

7th Jan 2016

So the new year is upon us and it's time to start making those 2016 goals that you’ll probably forget about in a few weeks' time (lets be honest). But don’t let that stop you from going out and enjoying all the delicious food and drink our fair city has to offer.

Why not celebrate this weekend with some foodie markets, arty-farty things, a movie, music and a little bit of sporty goodness. Here’s what’s on this weekend in Perth.

Friday 8 January

We are avid lovers of all things delicious that ooze culture and community spirit and the Twilight Hawkers Market is that and more. Returning in 2016 for the summer months, Forrest Place will be bustling with people who have come to enjoy the ambiance and aromas of authentic music and street food. Whether you’re a first-timer or a returning customer, this is the best place to fill your belly.

Where: Forrest Place, Perth
When: From 4.30pm, 8 January

Since the introduction of smartphone technology, binge drinking, violence and drug use within male adolescents has been well documented. Emerging Perth artist, Shannon McCulloch, has created an exhibition of new work which incorporates imagery, drawings and oil paintings that comment on this pressing issue. McCulloch’s work deals with the myths of masculinity and mateship and is a demonstration of the social context within today’s society.

Where: Moores Art Building, Fremantle
When: 6pm, 8 January

Saturday 9 January

The tennis lords will be joining us in P-town again this year for some much needed sporting entertainment. This will be your perfect opportunity to have a hit of tennis and pretend you’re a pro, perve on the hot boys or girls—playing or in the crowds—and attempt to take a Hollywood-style selfie with your fave star while you’re face is melting off and you’re sweating bullets. Sounds fun right?

Where: Perth Arena
When: 3—9 January
Tickets: Book here

Forget Katniss and The Hunger Games, our main gal pal and proper BFF Jen Lawrence also stars in a new movie called Joy. Now we don’t want to spoil the storyline but we can guarantee that this flick is a must see. It’s got a little betrayal, loss and scarring, but also innocence, love and loyalty. P.S. Try not to make this a first date film—unless you’re ok with crying in front of him/her.

Where: Luna Outdoor Cinema, Leederville
When: 8.15pm, 9 January
Tickets: $20, book here

All Our Exes Live in Texas is an Aussie band that have made their own style of modern folk music and we are keen as a bean to catch them this Sunday. They will be performing in the front garden of the Freo Arts Centre with free entry, wood fired pizzas up for grabs and many, many drinks available. Sit back and enjoy!

Where: Fremantle Arts Centre

Monday 11 January

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the Inglewood Night Markets (held every Monday during the summer) then now is your chance. Even though you’ve probably eaten enough to feed a large army over Christmas, there’s always room for more, right? Head down at 6pm and stroll up and down Beaufort Street to enjoy the music, food and atmosphere that this amazing market has to offer. You’ve been looking for an excuse not to cook on Mondays and here it is.
