This Weekend In Perth

This weekend in Perth is jam packed full of epic things to do and we can’t wait! There's a stellar line up of writers in town, plenty of arty things, a little sporting action, a touch of music and plenty of foodie goodness as always. (Disclosure: there may or may not be some ping-pong and the opportunity to throw grapes at people this weekend as well.)

Friday 19 February


PIAF is bringing us the Perth Writers Festival once again and there are so many epic events all packed into weekend, we don't know where to start! They’re are plenty of amazing peeps in town, including Paul West from River Cottage, Magda Szubanski, Rosie Waterland, Nobel prize Winner Peter Doherty and 'that movie guy' Marc fennell, just to name a few. Some of these awesome events are free and some are ticketed so make sure you check out the website and plan ahead.

Finders Keepers is a group art exhibition coming to Little Wing Corner Gallery in Subiaco tomorrow afternoon. It will feature live music and live art where artists will be asked to incorporate their artwork into or onto a ‘found object’, forcing them to re-evaluate what they consider as a canvas. Head down for some after work drinks from the Gage Road Brewing Co. summer selection and enjoy!

The Perth Wildcats are in their 30th consecutive finals campaign, which makes them the world’s most successful sporting team of all time—probably. This Friday night they’re playing the Illawarra Hawks in the NBA Semi-Finals at Perth Area and we think you should jump on the bandwagon and join the red army for the night. Defence!

Saturday 20 February


We probably need to thank the guys at Oakover Grounds for allowing us to throw grapes at people on Saturday. This year marks the sixth annual ‘Throwing of the Grape’ festival to celebrate the first wine harvest of 2016. There will be live music, DJs, food, wine tasting, grape stomping and of course grape throwing for all to enjoy and we are freakin’ keen!

Josh Pyke is known as one of Australia’s favourite storytellers and is closing his national tour this Saturday night in P-town. Playing tunes from his latest album along with some golden oldies, the ‘But For All These Shrinking Hearts’ tour will entertain and surely break hearts all over the city. This dream boat is only in town once so don’t miss out!

The Summer X Salt Markets are all about supporting local, ethical and sustainable practices along with creating community spirit and conscious consumption. Be prepared to find local surf and salty lifestyle products, local designers and creators, ocean conservation and social surf groups, delicious food trucks, coffee and juice carts and so much more. Gather your fellow salty tribe and head down to Scarborough Beach to enjoy all of the goodies.

Brand new Perth fitness studio Surge Fitness is opening this weekend are we are super keen to check it out. If you’ve recently done a spring clean and your trusty old bookshelf is in need of filling up again, now’s the perfect time to do just that because Fremantle City Library will be hosting a pre-loved book sale, with nothing over $2. A large variety of fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, DVDs, large print and books in other languages will be up for grabs. Make sure you bring a big box or bag in case you get carried away.

Sunday 21 February


Castaway is back this weekend for the last party of the summer. Get your float on in Thomson Bay along with What So Not, Golden Features Sable and Tina Says for one of the most epic island festivals ever! Tickets include ferry rides there and back along with access to the good times. Make sure you bring your sunscreen and obligatory floppy hat and get your tickets ASAP—they’re almost sold out!

For those of you who obvs aren’t keeping up with the cool kids, POPP stands for Public Outdoor Ping Pong. Yep, sounds pretty awesome doesn’t it? POPP have teamed up with local sneaker lords, Highs and Lows, and global sneaker lords, Reebok, to bring you the ultimate grand slam Ping-Pong tournament.
