South West WA, Margaret River Region, Things To Do Down South, Things To Do Margaret River, New Openings South West

I bet the first thing that pops into your head when you think about our glorious south west is beaches, wineries, cheese, relaxation...and maybe the Dunsborough bakery ammiright?

So we have done you a solid and rounded up some of our favourite south west spots for you to try over the holidays.

We present to you your south west summer bucket list.

Margaret River Woodfired Bread

First and foremost, let's talk about bread because…bread. Any good south west adventure involves a visit to Yallingup Woodfired Bread, a traditional wood-fired bakery that creates the best certified biodynamic sourdough, rye and fruit loaves. Well, now this tiny bakery in the bush has opened a Margaret River branch on Boodjidup Road conveniently located minutes from town for your daily carb cravings. Is this the best bread in the world? We think yes.

The Common

From the crew behind Morries Anytime and The White Elephant, The Common is a casual bar and bistro at the front of Margarets Beach Resort that's a real local favourite. We popped in recently for a sunset cocktail (cucumber cosmopolitan with house infused cucumber vodka, yesss!) on their huge deck followed by the most incredible dinner, which involved Yallingup bread (obviously), whole roasted chicken (with roasted garlic potatoes and broccolini) and a 24-hour slow-cooked beef short rib with roast pumpkin, charred corn and garlic potatoes. Delicious!

Riversmith

Completely transforming what was previously the BP petrol station on the main street of Margs is the stunning Riversmith—a cafe, produce and lifestyle store that showcases the abundant resources of the Margaret River region and beyond. Try not to get too overwhelmed with all the incredibly delicious things to eat and buy here because let me tell you, there are many! Definitely one of the most beautiful cafes in the south west.

White Elephant

White Elephant isn’t new but it has undergone a facelift with the addition of an indoor space and fireplace so that the stunning views over Gnarabup Beach can be enjoyed all year round. This really is the perfect spot for a casual breakfast, lunch or afternoon drink with mates!

Breweries Galore

Dubbed the fastest growing micro-brewery region in Australia, Margaret River is now home to some awesome craft breweries. Brewhouse Margaret RiverThe Beer Farm Micro Brewery and Black Brewing Co. (the distilling arm of Sampson & Bowen which has taken over the former Duckstein Brewery location) are just a few to check out.

The Margaret River Distilling Company is the second venture for Albany’s Great Southern Distilling Company and features a cellar door and casual tavern-style dining in a lush forest setting where you can sample their award-winning single malt whisky or their gin, vodka, brandy, grappe and absinthe bitters.

Old Faithfuls

We love new shiny things but we also love the tried and true old faithfuls like Eagle Bay Brewing Brewing CoWise WineGoanna Cafe and Gallery and Vasse Felix. There are so many amazing wineries down south but at the moment we are really crushing on Wills Domain and their glorious five and seven-course degustation menus—every dish is magnificently presented and tastes just as delicious as it looks! Best enjoyed outside overlooking the vineyard on a sunny day!
