There is no greater gift than the love of a pet.
And if you’ve ever felt like there’s just something missing from your life, chances are it’s a lil’ fluffer.
If you’ve been toying with the idea of adding to your fam, we’re here to persuade you even more. Here are all the places you can adopt an animal in need from on the Sunshine Coast (and a little further afield).
Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge Society
Located in Tanawha, the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge works with the council to ensure all doggos and kittehs that come through their gates are looked after and rehomed. In addition to all necessary checks and medical treatments, they pull out all the stops to make sure their animals are going to a truly loving home. If you can’t adopt just yet, volunteers are also welcomed with open arms.
4 Paws Animal Rescue
4 Paws don’t have a kennel open to the public, but jump over to their website and melt over all of the fluffballs instead. There, you’ll also find a ton of info about their adoption process, which isn’t just a “first in, best dressed” situation—the experienced team at 4 Paws (all of whom are volunteers, BTW) work hard to ensure their special pet pals are adopted by the best new family for them.
Y’all would (or should) know that the RSPCA is the big dawg of the animal adoption world, so to speak. In particular, the Noosa crew do SUCH amazing work, finding homes for more than 1,100 animals each year. Pay them a visit and it’s pretty much guaranteed you’ll come back with your perfect pet—dogs, cats, farmyard, small animals, and birds all ready to be looked after by loving hoomans. Follow their Facebook page for all the feels.
Much like the above, Gympie’s RSPCA Animal Care Centre helps over 500 families find their fur-ever friend each year. You can get all misty-eyed over the beautiful animals available for adoption online, or you can see them IRL, if you’re up for the road trip north.
Caboolture and District Animal Welfare Inc
Just a little way down the Bruce, these guys have been doing great things for dogs, cats, pup,s and kittens since ’92. As well as giving a forever home to a furry friend, you can also support CADAWI by visiting one of their op shops in Caboolture and Bribie. Vintage threads AND a new fur baby? You’ve cat to be kitten me!
We've also rounded up Everywhere You Can Cuddle Baby Animals On The Sunshine Coast here. Looking for farms you can actually stay at across Queensland? Stop the search!
