We’re known for our beaches, near perfect weather, fresh produce and gourmet dining. But what you probably didn’t know is that we also boast some impressive art galleries.

Whether you’re an art aficionado, an enthusiastic beginner or just keen to learn about local artists, these are the Sunshine Coast Art galleries you need to check out.

Phillips Gallery

Born in England, Peter Phillips is a world-renowned artist, with his work ranging from conventional oils on canvas, to pop art, collages, sculptures and even architecture. Exhibiting alongside names like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein, Phillips has had a long and colourful career that has led him to settling in Noosa Hinterland. The new private Phillips Gallery serves as Peter’s primary working studio with the clarity of light and open space suiting perfectly to his style of work. While still exhibiting his art worldwide, the Noosa gallery is a must-visit for collectors of his work and lovers of art, with private showings available upon request.

Noosa Regional Gallery

Located on the picturesque Noosa River, Noosa Regional Gallery is just a short stroll from the centre of Tewantin, making it the perfect afternoon activity for art lovers. With a diverse program of contemporary exhibitions showcasing local, national and international talent along with a selection of public programs including artist talks, workshops and masterclasses for all ages. The gallery is most known for their biannual green art event “Floating Land”, which continues to be their most ambitious project, featuring impressive sculptures across select natural sites. If you’re planning a visit, make sure to pop into the Gallery Shop and check out their unique artisan products, handmade by local and interstate designers.

Cool Art Gallery

Having opened a few years ago in Coolum Beach, Cool Art Gallery has already made its mark on the Sunshine Coast, regularly exhibiting leading, local, contemporary artists such as Pam Walpole, Des Rolph and Helena Jackson-Lloyd. With an online catalogue of selected works from various artists available for preview, art lovers can browse online before making an appointment to view the stockroom.

USC Art Gallery

Located at the University of the Sunshine Coast, USC Art Gallery boasts a contemporary program of professionally-curated projects as well as national touring exhibitions, with a strong focus on providing opportunities for the Sunshine Coast community. Showcasing the largest public collection of art in the Sunshine Coast region, you can expect works that demonstrate diversity and excellence in the contemporary Australian art scene with current exhibitions including 360-degree virtual reality and interactive experiences.

Caloundra Regional Gallery

Presenting an impressive selection of local and national artists, Caloundra Regional Gallery is a must-visit for any art lover. With professional curators and education staff delivering a range of exhibitions and public programs, you can expect to learn a lot about art as well as the unique culture and character of the Sunshine Coast. Some of their events and programs include dynamic ‘Friday Live’ after hours’ events, ‘Made by Hand’ art workshops, insightful ‘Uncovered Floor Talks’, as well as their hands-on ‘Pocket Sized Projects’ youth workshops.
