Sunshine Coast's Best Group Fitness Classes

By Zoe Thomas - 24 Mar 2017

Whether it is the early risers hiking up Mount Coolum to watch the sunrise or the dedicated afternoon speedo-wearing Coasters swimming kilometres along the Mooloolaba shoreline, fitness is truly a part of the Sunshine Coast lifestyle.

But for some, solo sweating ain’t really their thang. If you’re one of those people who needs an extra push, or if you just enjoy meeting new, like-minded people, here’s some of the best fitness classes on the Sunshine Coast.

F45 Training | Mooloolaba, Caloundra, Noosa & Coolum

Who doesn’t love sweating it out with strangers while looking all red-faced and questioning whether you need an asthma inhaler at the end of each session? Well, that’s exactly what to expect with F45. Short and sweet, each session runs for 45 minutes, so it’s great for those who need something snappy during the working week. With a different circuit workout every day, expect a mix of both cardio and strength training exercises. What’s also handy about F45 is each class has two highly qualified personal trainers running the session to push you and keep your form in check. No slacking allowed.

HIIT Training | Birtinya

H.I.I.T = High Intensity Interval Training. Yup, the workout sounds exactly like its name. It’s new to our fitness family here on the Coast, only opening in Kawana this year. The hour-long HIIT sessions range from strength and conditioning to Muay-Thai kickboxing. Expect sweat-drenched gym gear and an endorphin overload. Oh, and the booty will definitely start to feel perkier… Trust us.

Ocean Addicts SUP Yoga | Maroochydore

Who knew stand-up paddle boarding yoga was a thing?! Well it is, and it’s on offer in the heart of Maroochydore. Ocean Addicts SUP Yoga is perfect for those who are after a softer and less intense form of exercise. Yoga offers amazing health benefits, so why not add the challenge of balancing on a board while on the water? Classes run every Wednesday and Saturday, and you can expect a mixture of paddling, yoga, and meditation. Don’t worry if you don’t own a stand-up paddle board, they can be provided with each lesson and are included in the cost of the class. Namaste.

Absolute Aerials | Coolum

Did you ever dream of running away to join the circus when you were kid? Well now you can, kind of. We have our very own aerial and circus school located in beautiful Coolum. So, it doesn’t technically count as running away right? This school is for those Sunshine Coasters who are after a non-traditional form of exercise or want to try something completely different. Absolute Aerials offers a whole bunch of different classes from aerial silk tricks to lyra and hoop skills, and even aerial yoga—yup, you read right, you will hang in the air while performing different poses. This form of fitness is a great way to build strength and flexibility, and what’s even better, it’ll give you a mental push too.

Noosa Flow | Noosa

Flow is exactly how you would describe this gorgeous fitness studio in Noosa. Think: open and airy spaces, beautiful décor, and loads of natural light. It’ll make you feel instantly relaxed and ready to tackle a Pilates session. This boutique Pilates and wellness studio offers small group classes to ensure you get the most out of your workout. Perfect for both beginner and advanced levels. Each sesh will leave you feeling balanced, refreshed, and oh-so-toned in all the right places.

Jodi BarreYoga | Mudjimba & Maroochydore

It’s time to lace up your ballet shoes and bring back the tutu. Okay, not really, but this class is the closest thing you’ll get to living out your ballerina dreams. We’re thinking about you, Billy Elliot. BarreYoga with Jodi is a blend of barre work, yoga, and Pilates—guaranteed longer and leaner muscles. Don’t worry, no prior expertise in pliés is needed here, because classes are open to all levels of experience. Book in to a few lessons and you’ll have those dancer pins in no time.

Yoga on Tap | Eumundi

If there are two words we never thought we’d hear associated together, it is yoga and beer. But we sure like the sound of it! The Imperial Hotel in Eumundi is offering Yoga On Tap—AKA Vinyasa flow yoga classes with beer—on the first and third Sunday of every month. Stretch, downward dog, and eagle pose your way through an hour-long class and then into the beer garden next door. What better way to bond with your new fitness pals than over a schooner? Cheers mate. *Non-alcoholic beverages are available for all those dedicated fitness peeps out there.*

Pegasus PT | Noosa

Alright this one is for all the hard-core fitness fanatics out there. Pegasus PT, in Noosa, is all about strength and conditioning. Think: increasing in muscle tone and decreasing body fat. What’s great about this family-owned business is the focus on correct lifting techniques and training methods, to ensure you are performing at your absolute best. Not to mention training in a team environment will keep you both accountable and motivated! Guaranteed a body of the Gods in no time.

CircStudios | Warana

Remember when you were little and were always asked the question “if you could have any superpower what would it be?” If your answer was flying, then CircStudios is the place for you. This studio is an aerial wonderland for those Sunshine Coasters who are after fitness with a difference. Suspended in the air, the anti-gravity and aerial classes will leave you feeling buzzed (and no, not the blood rushing to your head kinda buzzed).
