Creamy curries, veggie samosas, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside potato bondas—nothing comes close to Indian when it comes to depth of spices and variety of offerings.

Oh and the naans—how people can munch Indian without a garlicky naan is something we’ll never understand.

Let’s face it, it never gets that cold on the Coast, so to reserve the flavours of Indian cuisine as a winter warmer for days below 15 degrees, would be a very stupid thing to do. (We know better than to segregate meal choices based on the time of year—otherwise, we’d be eatin’ snags from December, well, to December.)

We live in a place where every season is curry season, so if you’ve got a hankering for all things spice, here are our picks of the best Indian restaurants on the Sunshine Coast.

Butter chicken addicts? It’s pretty hard not to bypass this classic Indian dish at Rangoli. In fact, all the curries here get a massive eye-heart emoji from us when it comes to serving up all your oriental faves.  Decked out in modern, colourful Indian, this Buderim restaurant offers a large range of dishes from both North and South India, including an extensive vegetarian menu. This one is high on our list.

Hathi Indian Restaurant

Alexandra Headland
Known for its insanely good all-you-can-eat buffet dinners for just $25 per head, Thursday to Sunday, Hathi is one of the longest running Indian restaurants on the Coast. The de Silva brothers opened its doors in 1992 and it quickly became a Sunny Coast icon, serving delectable bowls of curry goodness to locals and visitors from across the globe. Smashing it guys!

The Curry Bowl

This hidden BYO gem may be modest but always packs out so you will want to book in advance (don’t say we didn’t tell you!). Curry Bowl not only serves up some of the best Indian cuisine, but its naan beds are renowned to knock your socks off. Try the Chicken Lahori, you will die and go to curry heaven.

Magic of India

This is where all the Indian foodie magic happens. Magic Of India is known for its heavenly butter chicken (seriously though, can that dish ever go wrong?), the extensive menu is jam packed with unforgettable entrees, authentic curries and desserts for those seeking a sugar hit. Open for some 20 odd years, it’s no wonder the restaurant claims to put customers as their number one priority. Gluten free? Nut free? Vegan? We told you they looked after their guests!

Mystic India

Noosa Heads

As the Sunshine Coast freezes over (or so the locals think), the juicy lamb chops masala here with potatoes simmered in a creamy onion sauce is sure to keep our bellies warm. Mystic India offers both fine dining and take away options, with wholesome dishes from every corner of India.  The menu incorporates traditional and classical favourites, served by some of the happiest people in town. Smile!

Dawaat Indian Restaurant

A hinterland favourite, don’t forget to stop in here next time you’re on your regular weekend tour of our spectacular region. Daawat Indian Restaurant is family-owned and has been recently refurbished with a new grand kitchen and modern interior.  Maleny is renowned as a competitive food destination so it goes without saying these guys know their tikka masala from their rogan josh. And this is another one claiming to serve up the Coast’s best butter chicken. Might be a fist fight soon!

India Today

Wanting Indian cuisine that takes you straight to the streets of the world’s capital exotic mother land? You must stop here. The selection will have you drooling over the menu with seekh kebabs, dahl soups, to-die-for vegetable samosas, prawn masalas and everything else. The Bombay Spices, Vindaloo Preparation, Chicken Tandoori and Rogan Josh Curry options are just some of the must-try dishes. Too chilly to get off the couch? Order online!
