8 Sunshine Coast Pizza Joints You're Going To Love

By Claire Plush - 10 Nov 2015

Mmmm… pizza! To say we’re diehard fans would be a total understatement. Thin-base, thick-crust, cheesy, authentic, innovative–we’re not fussy, but we know a good pizza when we taste one!

The art of pizza making is serious business (same goes for pizza tasting), which is why we’re lifting the lid and sharing our list of where you can find the best pizza on the Sunshine Coast.

Orange on Sunrise

“Hidden gem” gets thrown around a lot, but if ever there were a place that deserves the title, Orange on Sunrise would be it. What once was a spot only discovered through word of mouth, is now one of the most raved about restaurants, and it’s all because they’re dishing up some of the best pizza on the Sunshine Coast. Set in what feels like the middle of the bush, this retro-furnished restaurant is super casual, BYO (‘cause what’s pizza without your fave red) and serves up some of the best thin-base pizzas you’ll ever eat. Overwhelmed by the options? Be wow-ed by the roasted duck or Moroccan lamb.

Raymondo’s

We’re pizza and sunset fanatics, so bring them together and ka-pow! We’re in a multi-coloured, incredible smelling heaven. Want in? Staking its Italian cuisine flag on the coast over 20 years ago, Raymondo’s is set close to Noosa River and is the perfect place to grab a couple of takeaway pizzas for a DIY waterfront dining experience. Sigh! How romantic!

Locale

Okay, so you’re hanging around Noosa Heads at lunch and you’re craving a slice of the good stuff. Lost as where to go? We’re going to let you in on a drool-worthy secret. Tucked down the national park end of Hastings Street sits the refined Locale, and during lunch they serve incredibly authentic pizzas that will hit that Italian pit in your growling stomach. We’re suckers for old-flames and can never say no to a Margherita. From one pizza addict to another, these guys know how to keep it simple without being boring, and that’s why they’re making our list of the best pizza on the Sunshine Coast.

Bulli

Packed to the brim every day of the week can only mean one thing–the food at Bulli is good. Real good! And the pizza takes out the prize for most adored plate on the menu. Start with a simple garlic focaccia then up the foodie stakes with a 12-inch chorizo sausage, prawns, roasted pumpkin, spinach, fetta and mozzarella pizza AKA the Delaney. Unpretentious and conveniently located across the road from Marcoola Beach, Bulli is perfect for that after-surf binge (as long as it’s after 5pm).

Cala Luna

You could drive past Maroochydore a million times and never know that Cala Luna exists. But beware, once you’ve wolfed down one of their pizzas, your tastebuds will assume the role of GPS around these parts. For the full experience, order a home-baked pizza bread with gorgonzola and mozzarella cheese to line the stomach and then try the Cala Luna. The only thing that beats the smorgasbord of Italian flavours are the friendly staff. Don’t be surprised if chef-owner Osvaldo pops out of the kitchen for a food-focused chinwag.

Milan’s Buderim

Another long-time resident on the Sunshine Coast’s pizza scene, Milan’s Buderim is all about real Italian food made with local ingredients. Want to give this ethos a whirl (you’d be a fool to say ‘no’)? Order the seafood extravaganza featuring Mooloolaba king prawns and Hervey Bay scallops served on a base coated in a garlic and herb tomato sauce. Plate-lickingly good!

Amici Cafe

Southerners on the coast shouldn’t go by Amici Cafe in Caloundra for some of the best pizzas in the region. Having garnered a loyal following, if you want to dine in, be smart and skip the queue with a booking. Local tip: Sunday nights are $10 pizza nights, so save your dosh and end the weekend on a cheesy high!
