Love interiors? And coffee? Then you’re going to fall fast for Design Trader, the Sunshine Coast’s very own design library.

A place where you can sip on a smooth barista-made flat white, while thumbing through a mammoth selection of design-infused table books, this brand new space in Maroochyodre is a culmination of some of our favourite things.

Opening its giant and very beautiful doors in September after 12 months of planning and construction, Design Trader is an offshoot of Vantage Homes, a residential and commercial building group on the Sunshine Coast.

Needing somewhere to do their colour consults for their clients, the team saw an opportunity to come at it from an all-welcome approach, creating a space that can lend itself to anyone with an interest in interiors or coffee. Yes, that means you.

Sitting on a corner along Duporth Avenue, this new espresso bar and design library is a stone’s throw from Ocean Street and a short stroll from Sunshine Plaza and Cotton Tree.

First, you’ll notice the eye-catching gold signage from the street. Then, you’ll step into a space that features lots of raw elements, offset by the warmth of timber, textures and nature—their giant hanging plant feature is gob-smackingly stunning.

You’ll find an art wall you’ll want to replicate, with the likes of Brisbane photographer Francesca Owen and Byron Bay artist Jai Vasicek, plus, there’s a ceiling-high library wall, complete with a custom-made ladder. Each shelf is stocked with paint and tile samples, coffee table books you can enjoy with your hot beverage and homewares you can actually buy. We’re loving all things local, so the pottery by Reed Ceramics and Elke Lucas are standouts.

Behind walls of glass, sits the showroom for Vantage Homes and the interior design offices, which you can view by appointment, if the desire to build strikes. But the goodness doesn’t end there. For those who like to grab their dose of interior inspiration online, there are several iPads set up along a bar table overlooking the street, ready for you to browse. It’s not an exaggeration to say, these guys have seriously thought of everything.

While coffee is their main game—they’re pouring Sunshine Coast roaster Colombian Coffee Co.— there are also a few cabinet food options available, if you get an unexpected pang of hunger; think ham and cheese toasties, cupcakes and chicken wraps.

With oversized tables that are perfect for spreading out a few design magazines, or catching up with friends, we’ve no doubt Design Trader is a place where you’ll happily while away hours. Just beware, this fitout and all the epic details will have you mentally taking notes for your next reno or for the day you build your dream home.
