Appreciate your drop of vino poured with a backgrounder into its characteristics and origin? How about some friendly banter with the bartender and a sultry setting? Well then, set your GPS for Mooloolaba.
Located on the esplanade, Frank + Lotti is the intimate wine bar you need in your life. Dimly lit, cosy and kitted out with floor to ceiling shelves of wine, this is the kind of place you head for a quiet date night or a D&M with your bestie.
Opening its doors in 2018, the owners also operate Via Italia right next door. But while the Italian restaurant is more for families, pizza and pasta, Frank + Lotti is all about hushed conversations, low-fi jazz entertainment (on Fridays and Saturdays), salami, cheese and a huge selection of exciting wines.
Elegant and inviting, this bar uses a mix of exposed brick and rafters, cement floors, pendant lights, and leather and velvet stools to create a sophisticated space that’s like nothing else in Mooloolaba.
And while the interior has us sold, it’s the food and wine that really makes this place special. There’s a stomach-satisfying range of Italian cheeses and meats—including a kangaroo salami and smoked duck prosciutto—which you can order individually or as part of a board, complete with house baked bread and pickles.
You’ll also find handfuls of mouth-watering cicchetti (small plates) from chargrilled Mooloolaba king prawns in a garlic herb butter to tantilising meatballs with a smoked cheese sauce and polenta chips. Hungry yet?
When it comes to drinks, it’s all about the wine at Frank + Lotti with about 100 different bottles from around the world on offer. It’s a large enough list to entice most wine-lovers into trying something new, and yet refined enough that you’ll get an in-depth rundown from the knowledgeable staff about your chosen drop. But perhaps what excites us most, is you can try them all by the glass, which is somewhat of an uncommon occurrence around these parts.
Having just clocked a year in business, Frank + Lotti is now focusing on continuing to fill the gap between wine, food and the arts. With their Friday and Saturday low-fi jazz nights already a hit, along with a much-loved pop-up mulled wine bar and spritz station, you’d best be keeping an eye on their Facebook page to find out all about upcoming dates including the likes of bogan bingo, trivia quizzes and spoken word nights.
