Beer was a big theme this past long weekend, and while we were all downing coldie after coldie, our friends at local breweries Your Mates, Heads of Noosa,10 Toes and Brouhaha, were busy celebrating their winning spots in the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beers of the Year.

The infamous national beer contest, saw over 35,500 people voting for more than 2500 beers from 300 breweries—and four Sunshine Coast breweries made the cut with a whopping nine winning beers among them.

Warana brew house, Your Mates, came closest to winning the top spot, placing 5th (up eight spots from 2019) for their thirst-quenching pale ale, Larry. They also scraped another three beers into the top 100 with Sally, their IPA, making her debut at #40, Macca (a light lager) also making his debut at #79, and dark ale, Donnie, taking out the 99th spot.

New to the GABS list was northern brewery Heads of Noosa, whose Japanese lager made beer-drinkers very happy over the past 12 months, nabbing #45.

Out of Alexandra Headland, one of our favourite Sunshine Coast breweries, 10 Toes, produced three top 100 beers, with pale ale Pipeline sitting in 48th place, Happy Days, an IPA, sitting in 52nd and their lager swooping into 75th position.

Rounding out the list, it was Maleny's Brouhaha and their Strawberry Rhubarb Sour—made using Maleny Dairies natural yoghurt as a souring culture—who nabbed the 94th spot.

If you’re getting thirsty just reading about all this beer, clear the schedule and make some time to drop in to each brewery and taste-test these awarded drops.
