It’s a known fact that hidden places are so much cooler than out-in-the-open joints, and the region’s latest recruit should top your weekend drinking list.
Tucked behind an old refrigerator door at the back of burger house Ze Pickle, this hidden Sunshine Coast bar is everything you've been missing while the coronavirus lockdown has been in place. But not anymore!
Going by the name of KFZe Bar, a Ze Pickle re-work in honour of the KFC that previously stood in the same spot, this dimly lit space is so well hidden that you wouldn’t even know it existed…unless someone told you about it.
Elegant and understatedly sexy, you’ll find the space kitted out with a private timber bar, stools, leather bench seats, tropical wallpaper, a montage wall featuring pics of Colonel Sanders himself, plus another, more private elevated seating area.
Settle in for the long haul and order a bunch of tasters from the bar menu, separate to Ze Pickle’s main dish list. Flaunting finger-licking snacks like loaded chips with maple bacon and all of the sauce, porkitas with Applewood smoked pulled pork, queso and roasted capsicum on mini tortillas, or guacitas piled with housemade guacamole, roasted capsicum and Mexican seasoning, you’ll be getting the same quality eats you’d get if you were sitting in the restaurant. Plus, for the chicken lovers, there are three flavours of wings on offer—BBQ, buffalo and suicide aka super spicy suckers—which we all know are the perfect accompaniment to a round of frothies.
Speaking of drinks, you’ll find three taps pouring rotating beers, a satisfying wine list and a heap of night-making cocktails. We’re loving the sound of the jalapeño margarita and the salted caramel espresso martini. But if you need to put something in your dessert stomach, don’t go past the banoffee pie; a sweet mix of Stolen white rum, banana liqueur, housemade dulce de leche and banana blended with ice cream, all topped with apple crumble. Yep, now you’re interested.
Currently, this hidden haunt is only open for group bookings of 20 people, and requires a $35pp fee, plus a $600 minimum spend, which can go straight on the bar for all those cocktails you'll be downing.
Totally worth hunting down, send out the group text to 19 of your faves and put KFZe as the meet-up point. Then, it's time to let the good times roll.
