With new music spots popping up across the region, unless you’re seriously desperate for a big smoke fix, you don’t have to venture too far.
The Coast has got a wide range of genres and vibes to cater for every music lover, so to make catching a gig even easier, we’ve wrapped up the best live music venues on the Sunshine Coast.
This list couldn’t start with any other than the Sunshine Coast’s primary live music joint, Solbar. Hosting a range of live acts for weekend gigs, afternoon acoustic sessions and open mic nights, Solbar is known for its variety and jam-packed calendar. They’ve hosted some pretty big names over the years, as well as giving local up-and-comers a platform to kick start their music careers, so no matter what kind of music you’re into, chances are you’ll find it at Solbar.
The Imperial Hotel
Another of the Sunshine Coast’s most-loved live music joints, The Imperial Hotel is the perfect place to sit back, relax, enjoy a few beers and listen to some top-notch live music. Hosting both local artists and international talent in their purpose-built live music venues, The Imperial has been home to some show-stopping acts. Whether you’re enjoying some free live music in the beer garden, or attending a ticketed gig at The Bunker or The Brewery, The Imperial Hotel is the ultimate place to catch some live music.
Boston Shaker Bar
This old-school cocktail and music bar is tucked away in Mooloolaba’s newly-revived Wharf precinct, and is the hidden gem of the Sunshine Coast. Boasting live music performances almost every night and a regular open mic night every Tuesday, the Boston Shaker Bar is an intimate, soulful venue with lots of heart. Come for the live music, stay for the cocktails.
If sipping on local craft beer, enjoying live music and soaking up views of Pumicestone Passage sounds like your perfect afternoon, then you may want to pay Drift Bar a visit. Not only do they have a drool-worthy menu, but they also have live music every week. Local and not-so-local artists set the mood perfectly with their breezy coastal tunes, making Drift Bar the best live music venue in Caloundra. Check out their Facebook page for event updates.
Noosa Surf Club
Yes, it may be a humble surf club, but the Noosa Surf Club is actually one of the most popular live music venues on the Sunshine Coast. Featuring local bands and duos, as well as regular performances from renowned artists from around the world, Noosa Surf Club offers the ultimate live music experience, with a huge deck, ocean views and cold beers on tap.
El Capitano has already established itself as home to some of the best pizzas on the Sunshine Coast, but in an unexpected turn of events it is also fast becoming one of the Coast’s best live music venues. Recently introducing their weekly Hump Day Sessions, El Capitano features the best local and touring musicians every Wednesday evening from 6.30pm. After all, what’s better than being serenaded while sipping on an Aperol Spritz and tucking into a smoked pancetta pizza? Nothing.
The Piano Bar
Jazz might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. The Piano Bar, along Maroochydore’s Ocean Street, is one of the Sunshine Coast’s only Jazz bars, with live music almost every night of the week. Centred around a grand piano, the venue features some of Australia’s best Jazz musicians, as well as an amazing bar and delicious Mediterranean style share plates. Whether you’re a fan of Jazz or not, you’ll be able to appreciate The Piano Bar for its class, elegance, and of course, its cocktail menu.
